Double chin: Surgery for low hyoid? (photos)

Question

I am skinny, but I have double chin which is cause by low hyoid. Is there any procedure that could lift the hyoid bone, so that I would have normal neck contour? I've attached cephalogram.

Thank you for your X-ray. I agree with Dr. Apply concerning your hyoid position in the X-ray.  There is not a surgical procedure to reposition the hyoid bone.  Your best best would be standard techniques that we have to improve chin and neck contour. Best wishes.

Your x-ray does not show a low hyoid position. (there are no hyoid lifting/modifiying procedures that work anyway) You need to consider a submentoplasty procedure where fat is removed both above and below the muscle with platysmal muscle tightening. This is the maximum treatment approach for the severe double chin deformity. Whether the addition of chin augmentation has any adjunctive role to play can not be determined from just an x-ray.

A full set of facial pictures are required to determine what may be needed, not a cephalogram. Most patients who have a low hyoid also have a weak chin profile,  so a chin implant may be required. In addition, many patients have fatty deposits above and below the platysma muscle, and both deposits must be removed surgically for the best results. A platysma plasty would be required. It's impossible to move the hyoid bone, since it is attached to the swallowing and vocal muscles. For many examples, please see the video and the link below
