Thank you for your pictures. In my opinion, this is a tough issue. It may be best to soften this deep fold over time with fat grafting. This will not eliminate the fold but reduce the depth of the fold. Best wishes.
An xray would be important to know the status of chin afterthe sliding genioplasty. It is possible that the soft tissues have scarred downat the step-off resulting in the deep sulcus. If so, an implant could be placedto soften the transition. It is unlikely that the genio segment moved.
Thank you for your question. You appear to have a deep labio-mental fold. Having said that though, your nose-upper lip-chin line remains deficient at the chin level. You have not shown any pictures of your occlusion, so it is difficult to say whether the position of your jaw (mandible) is ideal. The deep fold may be the result of an over advancement of the sliding genioplasty segment. You will need a thorough review by your surgeon in order to determine what is truly required.Hope that helps.
Ideally, the surgeon would have improved the 'fold' under the lip at the same time; but it can be reduce with implant material (not silicone) on the 'ledge' of the chin osteotomy. As well, the slope of the jawline tends to emphasize this appearance and can be reviewed as well. Talk to the surgeon who did the original plan
You can correct the chin 'asymmetry' with a sliding genioplasty and contour the jawline with tapering strips of implants to enhance and define the jawline. The 'jowel' area appears at your age due primarily to a reduced bone support; so that the soft tissue 'overlaps' the jawline more readily....
A custom carved chin implant may be able to help improve some of the asymmetry that is present. Chin implants are manufactured in a large variety of sizes and shapes and since they are made of Silastic, they can be custom carved to fit the patient's unique anatomy. For more...
Thank you for your pictures. Yes, the projection and width can be changed with a sliding genioplasty. This is slightly challenging. I agree with Dr. Jamali that I do not believe that your chin needs to be widened.
