How can I fix my horrible chin?

How can I fix my chin? I hate it and Ive been looking at corrective jaw surgery because I've been having jaw pain whenever I eat, yawn, or speak. Please help. Im tired of hating my appearance.

Hello, Thanks for your question.From your picture, it is evident that your chin is smaller than the surrounding structures.  This creates facial imbalance that bothers you.If your teeth are in good position and you just have small chin, a chin implant procedure can be performed to improve this situation.If your teeth are not in good position or there is a problem with your bite, you might need orthognathic surgery to reposition your maxilla and mandible to better position the teeth.  This can then help reposition the chin aspect of the mandible into a better position.Lateral cephalograms are special xrays that will be need to survey various bony relationships inside your lower facial area.A specialist in craniofacial surgery or maxillo-facial surgery should be consulted to better understand which procedure you are better suited for.Good luck and I hope you feel better,Dr. Shah

Hi, thanks for your question. In general, there are two basic ways a small chin can be treated. One is with an implant and the other is by making cuts to different parts of the chin to bring it forward. However, if you are having jaw issues, you may need a jaw advancement where part of the jaw (along with the chin) is moved forward. For cosmetic purposes only, a Silastic chin implant can be inserted through a submental approach to give the added projection to the chin to help with facial balance and proportions. If there is dental issues that need to be considered, its best to seek out a consultation with an oral surgeon to talk about a sliding genioplasty.

A chin implant will correct the cosmetic deformity of your receding chin. It will do nothing for your other problems. For those, you may want to see a dentist . You may have TMJ pain.
