I’m a very short women with very large hips. I’ve tried working out wondering if it’s just love handles but all of the women in my family have big curvy hips. This makes it very difficult for me to find clothes that fit me right. Can I have surgery or do some kind of training for my hips to get smaller?

Your hips do not look particularly large in your photo. However, if you want to remove excess fat, you have a lot of choices. Liposuction is the fastest method. It’s a surgical procedure done in the office in which your fat is vacuumed out of your body using very small cannulas (metal straws). You only need one treatment. You may also want to consider noninvasive fat-elimination techniques, such as Vanquish, CoolSculpting and ThermiTight. These techniques have no downtime at all but can only remove about 25% of fat at a time. Please consult a board-certified dermatologist who can help you decide which technique to choose to get the slim hips you desire.

The one submitted photo is inconsistent with your description of large hips so I recommend scheduling an in-person consultation with an American Board of Plastic Surgery board certified plastic surgeon who performs hundreds of liposuction procedures annually. Liposuction removes fat cells resistant to diet and exercise and relies on soft tissue elasticity for ultimate contour.   If the waist was smaller at one time, the waist can likely be reduced to those same measurements or smaller provided the muscular and fascial integrity has remained the same.Kenneth Hughes, MD, Board Certified Plastic SurgeonLos Angeles, CA

Thank you for your question. This is a common area for women to store fat and  liposuction can be a very nice option to lean down relatively easily. we can remove a significant amount of fat in order to make your hips smaller. We  then use postoperative compression garments and therapy massages to get the skin to contract down around the new shape.That said, you definitely have to choose your surgeon correctly and make sure that he/she has the training and experience to meet your goals with absolute safety.  A key quality indicator is Board Certification by the American Board of Plastic Surgery.  Don’t settle for less than a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon with specialized expertise in this procedure.

In your photo, I don't particularly see large hips. I see full lateral thighs, good skin tone and someone of fairly normal weight. Obviously I could tell you better with a consultation in person but I think you would be a good candidate for liposuction. I would use ultrasonic liposuction and it may take 3-6 months for you to see your final result but I would definitely get a consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon in your area.
