Hypothyroidism and liposuction - I want to get rid of this fat.

Question

I am 27 years old, 5"4 and 155 pounds. I eat very little and exercise 5x a week, either walking or weight lifting because i have bad joints and feet. I have all the symptoms of hypothyroidism and the only thing that's stopped me form blowing up liek a balloon is my intense regulation of what i eat and how much I move. i feel so sad, so old and tired... i want to get rid of this fat but im concerned my condition will make it all come back. any thoughts?

Hopefully once your thyroid is regulated optimally, and your weight has stabilized, you might be a candidate for liposuction.  
Once patients have their hormones optimized, there exercise becomes more effective.

Thanks for your question. Thyroid hormone is the driver of our metabolism. Hypothyroidism is under recognized and under treated.Your situation could easily be attributed to a low thyroid hormone level. The level on the lab may fall within a "normal" range but may still be low for you.Once the thyroid condition is optimized you should find it easier to maintain and even lose weight. Liposuction can be done but would yield optimal results when you are close to your ideal weight.Seek out a board certified plastic surgeon to evaluate you and review your options.

First have your endocrine system evaluated by your physician, including sending a thyroid panel. If you are confirmed hypothyroid, your physician should treat it with thyroid hormone.  After your thyroid level is stable and within the normal range, and after you have given it your best shot with diet and exercise, you may be a good candidate for liposuction. This is difficult to answer without a picture and needs an in-person evaluation. You can have liposuction if you have hypothyroidsim, if it has been regulated and you're a candidate. But  it is essential to stay healthy, diet, and exercise after liposuction in order to maintain the results. For best results, I recommend a hi definition procedure like VASER liposuction. I use VASER HI DEF with ThermRF and fat grafting to get the most fat removal, skin tightening, contour and definition. This combination will give you the most toned result. Based on what you are reporting, your symptoms could be consistent with hypothyroidism and you should be evaluated by a primary care physician with a probable referral to endocrinology. Hypothyroidism is relatively easy to diagnose with laboratory testing. If you were found to be hypothyroid, replacement of thyroid hormone is the usual therapy and may help boost your metabolism to help you burn fat more efficiently. Understand, though, that even with controlled hypothyroidism (i.e., let's say hypothetically you get diagnosed, found to be hypothyroid and put on Synthroid and your thyroid levels normalize) there may be a role for liposuction for correction of love handles in particular as some areas may not metabolize fat as quickly as others. However, any ethical board-certified plastic surgeon who knows you are concerned about possible hypothyroidism should recommend you be evaluated for that first and treated if diagnosed, before contemplating liposuction.

It is possible to control your weight with thyroid medication as well as your healthy exercise regimen.
