Compression can help reduce swelling and improve final outcomes. Some Doctors recommend them and some don't. I recommend following up with your Doctor about their protocol for compression. My patients use customized compression after their procedure. For liposuction after care, I recommend adding hyperbaric oxygen and lymphatic massage along with your compression to help decrease swelling. To improve your final results, I also recommend adding vanquish for further fat removal, exilis/venus legacy for skin tightening, cellutone/z wave to make the skin smooth, remove scar tissue, and improve the skin’s appearance. Best, Dr. Emer
Thank you for sharing your excellent question. Foam boards are used to supply additional compression to areas recently liposuctioned. Their major benefit is in the reduction of soft tissue swelling which can cause patients pain and discomfort but as long as you use some form of compression garment that is well-fitted, you should be fine. Hope this helps.
Thank you for the question! Foams and boards are meant to reduce bruising and swelling during your recovery process. Like compression garments, they work by applying pressure to liposuctioned areas to ensure that swelling resolves faster. Foams are particularly effective in the early stages of recovery to help with your bruising. I'd recommend to consult your plastic surgeon before using them, however. An in-person exam with a board-certified plastic surgeon would be the best way to assess your situation and guarantee an individualized medical advice. Best of luck!
Foam can add specific extra pressure and further minimize bruising. In my opinion the boards are of little/no use and quite awkward to use.
Some surgeon use them and others do not. Likewise, some use garments and others do not. There are no studies that I know of proving that one works better over the other.
One of the most important things to do after liposuction is to apply even pressure around the areas that were suctioned. The pressure helps to reduce postoperative bruising and swelling, but pressure can also be applied with a well fitting garment. In the end, it will still take months for the swelling to resolve completely. We offer our patients post-liposuction massages as another method to cut down on the swelling, The massages are uncomfortable at first, but patients love to be able to see their results earlier! :)
Generally, these foam pads are used for two reasons: they help reduce swelling and they aid in allowing the skin to heal smoothly. They are worn under the compression garment for several daysor up to a few weeks depending on the surgeon's routine.
I find the use of lipo-foam under compression garments to be incredibly useful and protective. Soft foam helps to create a soft barrier between Compression Garments and sensitive skin, especially after laser liposuction. Abdomen boards applied to the lower abdomen allow a more flight robust support to minimize sagging of the lower abdomen, especially if there is some mild to moderate loss of elasticity in the lower abdomen. Using the combination of foam and boards can greatly improve contour outcome if used properly. Consult an experienced surgeon for best overall results!Happy Contouring!Windell Davis-Boutte, MD
Many patients have a very full Mons - and sometimes a very loose and redundant area that is hidden under the patient's abdominal wall laxity/redundancy. If it is not identified before the abdominoplasty or Around the World belt lipectomy - the patient will have a bulge postoperatively. M...
Liposuction is generally recommended to be performed with significant intervals, typically allowing the body to heal fully. It’s crucial to consult with a medical professional for recommendations, but waiting at least 6 months between procedures is a common guideline to ensure proper recovery.
Arnica Montana and bromelain are often used for swelling and bruising. There are other over the counter natural remedies that can be of help as well. Certainly any use of medications should be discussed with your surgeon.. Swelling in most post liposuction patients can be...
