Thanks for your question. I have my liposuction patients wear a compression garment (faja) covering all treated 24/7 except to shower for 4 weeks post op. This helps ontrol swelling as the compression on your tissues helps your body to reabsorb the edema fluid that accumulates in the tissues after any procedure. This can take quite some time to happen without help from the compression garments. It also helps improve contour. Compression helps to keep the tissues adherent to the underlying structures while healing, this can help prevent the wrinkled skin appearance that can happen when the tissues heal in ways we don't want them to.
Thanks for your question and congratulations on completing yoursurgery. In my opinion, it does notmatter whether you wear your compression garment during the day or night. Oftentimes, we will recommend wearing it atnight just because it is a little more comfortable for the patient rather thanhaving to wear it underneath clothes during the day which can cause sweatingand discomfort. But, you can do whatworks best for you. I hope thishelps.
I usually have my patients wear a compression garment for 1-2 weeks for both day and nite then just during the day for another 4 weeks. They are exercising after 1 week and back to work in 2 days.
I recommend following up with your Doctor about their protocol regarding compression. I have my patients wear compression for 3-6 weeks straight then overnight for 3-6 months after their procedure. For liposuction after care, I recommend adding hyperbaric oxygen and lymphatic massage along with your compression to help decrease swelling. To improve your final results, I also recommend adding vanquish for further fat removal, exilis/venus legacy for skin tightening, cellutone/z wave to make the skin smooth, remove scar tissue, and improve the skin’s appearance. Best, Dr. Emer
Surgeons recommendations will vary on a number of topics. The quick and easy answer to your specific question...is garments should be worn as long as your plastic surgeon recommends. That being said, most will recommend 6-8 weeks of compression (some longer/some shorter). Some physicians will recommend a transition to part time usage half way through this period. The garments are important for controlling swelling post op and mitigating the risk of fluid collections while obtaining a smooth contour. As always, discuss your concerns with a board certified plastic surgeon (ABPS).
Thank you for your question and congratulations on your surgery. The post - op swelling will slowly subside over the next three - six months. I have my liposuction patients wear a compression garment for six weeks post - op. Please discuss your concerns with your board certified plastic surgeon. Hope this helps and good luck with your recovery.
Thank you for your question! The exact period of time to wear a compression garment will be determined by the extent of your procedure. For example, if you had a comprehensive lipo treatment, you may have to wear a compression garment for 6 weeks. In the case of mini liposuction applied only to a limited area, you may only need to stick to your garments for 1 or 2 weeks. It's best to consult with your plastic surgeon who may have specific guidelines for wearing a compression garment. An in-person exam with a board-certified plastic surgeon would be the best way to assess your situation and guarantee an individualized medical advice. Best of luck!
Thank you for reaching out. Every surgeon has their own protocols for each procedures post op care. Be sure to keep in close contact with him/her during your recovery! Best of luck! Dr. Kacchenmeister
Hello 'shabri7280', thanks for your question. The recommended length of time to wear a compression garment after a liposuction procedure varies by body part, amount suctioned, patient comorbidities, and how the healing is coming along. On average it can be as little as 1-2 weeks for liposuction of the neck and arms to as much as 6+ weeks for liposuction of the entire torso with concomitant procedures such as tummy tuck or breast lifts. The purpose of these compression garments is to compress down the new space where the fat was suctioned so that the skin will heal down to the underlying muscle and fascia layers while minimizing seroma fluid collections. Many patients feel additional support from these form-fitting garments and enjoy wearing them for longer periods I have noticed. Most areas can now be suctioned in the office setting without the need for general anesthesia, which is an added bonus for a lot of patients. If you would like to discuss this further, please contact my office for a complimentary consultation. Good luck!-Dr.Go
Hi there,Thanks for the question. Different surgeons have different protocols but a good rule of thumb is to have you wear your garment at least 2 months after surgery (I recommend 3-4 in most cases, especially with large volume liposuction or BBL procedures). It's usually a good idea to have two garments - one to wash while you are wearing the other and swap them back and forth -- and frequently we'll have the patient get one formal medical garment from us and then buy 1-2 Spanx products for when the swelling subsides.
Compression can help reduce swelling and improve final outcomes. Some Doctors recommend them and some don't. I recommend following up with your Doctor about their protocol for compression. My patients use customized compression after their procedure. For liposuction after care, I recommend...
Many patients have a very full Mons - and sometimes a very loose and redundant area that is hidden under the patient's abdominal wall laxity/redundancy. If it is not identified before the abdominoplasty or Around the World belt lipectomy - the patient will have a bulge postoperatively. M...
Liposuction is generally recommended to be performed with significant intervals, typically allowing the body to heal fully. It’s crucial to consult with a medical professional for recommendations, but waiting at least 6 months between procedures is a common guideline to ensure proper recovery.
