3.5 weeks after tummy tuck and lipo I returned to work. I drive a bus on rural roads and have to do a lot of turning around in tight places, etc. Since returning to work, the swelling that was getting better, is now pretty bad again. Like it was at 2 weeks. I see my surgeon on Tuesday, but my ? is, should I consider taking more time off work at this point? Or will I just need to be more patient for the swelling to calm down with the activity? thanks in advance

Answer: Swelling after Tummy Tuck Thank you for your question. It is quite common to develop increased swelling after a body contouring procedure upon returning to normal acitivities like work. At 3.5 weeks postop swelling is still normal. You may benefit from wearing a compression garment like shape ware while up and about. Sitting from prolonged periods while driving is also likely having a significant influence on your swelling. Getting up and walking frequently during breaks would help. More time office is unlikely to resolve the problem in the short run. It will take a couple of months before the swelling resolves completely. Best wishes on your recovery.

Answer: Swelling returned after going to work It's typical to experience a slight increase in swelling after returning to your daily activities. Wearing a stage 1 compression garment when out and about can help tremendously. Have your board certified plastic surgeon evaluate you in person to be sure you didn't go back too soon.Thank you for your question and happy healing!Melinda Lacerna, MD FACS
