Capsular contracture, 3 months post op, will it soften or should I consider surgery? (photo)

I'm 3 months post op. I have 240cc under the muscle. I started to develop contraction 2 months in. I'm curious to know what stage I'm in and if I should consider surgery. I have been on medication for 3 weeks so far,but I haven't seen much improvement. I finish my medication in 3 or 4 weeks. If it doesn't soften should I consider surgery? Will it soften?

Capsular contractures are not uncommon with Breast Augmentation.  to find out what grade it is, please see the table provided below.  implant displacement exercise sometimes helps especially with early onset capsular contracture.  If it does not resolve within several weeks or worsens to a higher grade, it would be wise to intervene.

If this occurred soon after surgery it may be lack of muscle release as mentioned. Is your breast hard now and not before then capsule is likely. Since most of us think of capsules are caused by bleeding or infection or both then antibiotics may help. Surgery is best after this process is stable so waiting a few months more is best. If not painful you are grade 3 if painful then grade 4 capsular contraction.Good luck!

Three months is pretty early for a capsule contracture to form, so if you were my patient I would approach it conservatively and without surgery. I would like suggest massage, ultrasound, Singulair or Accolate, Alpha tocopherol 1000 u, and possibly antibiotics. It all depends on the level of CC and the type of breast implant/approach used to place the breast implants. You might not see an improvement with the medications for several months.

Thank you for your question's and photo. There are 4 grades of capsular contracture which are the following:      Grade I — the breast is normally soft and appears natural in size and shape      Grade II — the breast is a little firm, but appears normal      Grade III — the breast is firm and appears abnormal      Grade IV — the breast is hard, painful to the touch, and appears abnormalI can only give you an opinion from your photo, and you may be a Grade III on your right breast since it is higher on that side.   Typically, the only treatment is exchanging the implant and removing the capsule (scar tissue) .

You have a Grade 3 at least capsule contracture with superior displacement of your implant. No medication or massage will relieve this because your muscle was not detached quite enough.You will need a re-operation to correct the displacement. Most surgeons wait 6 months from the original surgery, but the problem you have could be corrected earlier and will make you happier much more quickly.
