How can I get rid of hives after breast implant surgery? What is causing my hives?

Question

I am 1 month post op, during week 2-now i had hives on the bottom of both my breasts and it has calm down a little bit after using cream but the hives is still there. Now at 1 month post op i now have hives doing down both of my arms. They are spreading I am scared, my PS says to just use the Ket 2% cream and that's it. why is the hives spreading? What is causing my hives? i took benadryl and i put on the 2% steroid cream and cortisone cream, help

Thank you for your question.  Hives are often a result of a reaction to a medication or topical reaction to a number of things such as dressings or tape.  Best to follow the instructions given by your plastic surgeon.  Good luck.

Thank you for your question. Please contact your surgeon to give you specific instructions on how to reduce hives. It could be a number of things causing these hives including bandages, tapes, sutures, medications.

Occasionally, patients can have a reaction to tape, glue, or other bandaging. This is usually self-limited. If it is not improving, I would recommend seeing a dermatologist who may prescribe another medication.

Based on what you say, I am not convinced that your hives are necessarily related to your breast augmentation. I would discuss with your primary care physician so that they can evaluate your hives and determine the underlying cause and then of course, treatment.

Your hives may be an allergic reaction which us unrelated to the augment. I agree that you should see your internist who will make the proper referral to a specialist.
