How soon will I️ see CoolSculpting results for my knees? (Photos)

Question

I️ had one CoolSculpting session done above my knees 4 weeks ago with the CoolMini applicator. I️ have seen no improvement - if anything, I’m still swollen (I’ve been measuring daily and they’re still larger than they were pre-procedure). Is it normal to still have some swelling at 4 weeks? Do the knees take a longer time to show results than other parts of the body? Looking for any answers. Thank you!

I would wait another few weeks and do your follow up pics with your provider. Most times in this area you need more than one treatment for best results. My RN staff has started using the petite to cover more surface area on top of the knees with nice results. Best of Luck.

Hello, Thank you for your question. Results in the legs can take a bit longer. 3-4 months vs 2-3. Before and after pics will probably show the results more than measuring because it’s difficult to measure at exactly the same spot in the same way each time. CoolSculpting of the knees with the CoolMini applicator can take 6-12 weeks to see results. Usually 2-3 rounds of treatment are needed. In the knee area CoolSculpting works best when combined with other treatments. Make sure you follow up with your treating physician to track your progress. Best wishes.

Hello ssance,I tell my patients that they may not appreciate results till 6-8 weeks post treatment. When you follow up with your provider around at 8 weeks they'll likely take photos to document the results. If there is reduction and you feel there needs to be more then you can choose to have a second treatment.  The results following CoolSculpting aren't noticeable immediately nor do you see daily changes. My first suggestion is to stop looking and measuring daily, this is a waste of your time and only adds to your anxiety. Your photos are not great to make a comparison since the background isn't consistent. There appears to be reduction of fat, but I can't tell for sure.Best of luck,Oscar A. Thank you for your question. It is common to have some swelling, numbness, and tingling after Coolsculpting treatment and typically resolves in a few weeks. The post treatment swelling that patients experience after CoolSculpting will vary in duration from person to person. But, I would expect the treated areas to return to normal soon. Regarding results, it generally takes several months to see them. This is true for any applicator used on any part of the body. Very frequently patients hear that you "may" begin to see results in as little as 4 weeks. That would be rare, but does occasionally happen. For most patients, they will truly need to wait the full 3 months. And, I would emphasize that the mini applicator tends to yield a smaller, less noticeable result(as it is a much smaller applicator), and it requires a minimum of three treatments to achieve optimal results.

The peak results from CoolSculpting any body area are between 2-4 months, so its still fairly early for you to be seeing results. Some side effects such as: numbness, swelling, and tingling can last for a few weeks, so its normal to still be experiencing some at this point. Most of our patients are happiest after two rounds of treatment; depending on your specialist's recommendations, you may be preparing for another round of treatment. We usually assess patients at their 30 day Follow Up appointment, and if there are no residual symptoms we can retreat the same area then.
Result timelines can vary from person to person and body area to body area- there is no one area that responds "best." We do know that whatever the treatment area, the best results are between 2-4 months, usually after two treatments. It can be exciting to wait for those results, which is why at our 30 day Follow Up appointments we take progress photos for you. Not all patients see a visible result that early, but its all part of preparing you for your 90 day progress results. Stay patient, and hang in there!

Coolsculpting is a very good procedure - but, it takes time (and more treatments) to see significant improvement (especially in the knees, which tend to respond a bit more slowly than other areas.) However, keep your eyes on the prize, remembering that Coolsculpitng is one of the few procures that will work in this area, without surgery/scars. :)

I tell patients that they may see preliminary results 6-8 weeks after treatment with the final results expected at 4 months. It takes time for the body to remove enough of the damaged fat cells to see a difference. I also tend to see it take a little longer for results in areas with thickened fibrous fat such as the knees so I would not worry at all about the lack of results at this point. As far as the swelling, it can vary from patient to patient as to the duration with some patients noticing it gone in 2 weeks and others will notice it taking a month or more to resolve. I generally suggest not trying to measure since there are several scientific studies which shown it is nearly impossible to get the tape measure in the exact same area each time so I would not keep measuring but look in the mirror for the results to appear. I would suggest having after photos done at 2 months so you and your physician can compare these to your pre-photos and determine if you are starting to see some early results, and then repeat the photos at 4 months to see your final results.
