Is it ok to have an applicator across the belly button horizontally instead of a v shape?

Yes, the applicator can be placed horizontally, but without pictures or an in-person evaluation, it's difficult to determine if this is right for you. Keep in mind, for best results with Coolsculpting, a combination approach is needed. I recommend adding radiofrequency treatments like Vanquish, Venus Legacy, Exilis Ultra for skin tightening and with Z wave/Cellutone for skin smoothing. Yes, a CoolSculpting applicator can be placed horizontally across the abdomen, including over the belly button.  There is not just one correct placement of applicators when treating someone with CoolSculpting.  In most cases, there are a variety of ways in which the treatment could be done.  The most important thing is to make sure that all of the areas with the unwanted fat are being treated.  Physicians may have different preferences for applicator placement, but as long as the fat is treated, the result should be good in whichever method is used.  

CoolSculpting yields natural looking results when the applicators are applied properly. The general guideline is to follow the line of the bulge and to place the center of the applicator over the peal of the bulge. The industry standard is to treat around the belly button. In many instances we will use smaller applicators to form a diamond shape around the navel. In other instances where more de-bulking is required, we will begin with the larger Advantage Plus in the horizontal position below the navel. Then, in the following treatment, we sculpt using the diamond shape, or v shape with 2 smaller applicators below the belly button. It is not really possible to tell you what would be best without seeing you in person. However, the idea of placing the applicator over the navel should not even be on the table for discussion. applicator is positioned based on several factors: orientation of the fatty
tissue and where the peak of the fat is. The applicator is normally not placed
directly over the belly button since the peak of the "bulge" would
not be the belly button. You should consult with a physician who is a certified
Coolsculpting provider to get the best assessment for your treatment.  

Without seeing you in person it's impossible to guess what applicator configuration would be ideal for you.  It is however not ideal to place the applicator over the belly button because for the best results we place the center of the applicator over the peak/center of the bulge-- your belly button is already concave so it would not be the best place to have the treatment centered.  Most fat on the abdomen is centered to either side of the belly button so a V or diamond shape around it is generally best.

Never hesitate to ask your provider about different orientations of the applicator. They should be able to explain in a way that makes sense, and show you they understand what they are doing, and why! If not, find another provider ;) 

Thanks for the great question! You're correct in that some people may need the applicator placed horizontally, but it is much less common than the V shape. It's difficult to tell which orientation would be best suited for your without seeing you in person. Great question! The applicator placement depends on the location of the fat and the orientation whether in a "v" or horizontally is determined by the orientation of the fat. This varies in each person so it is important to have your treatment done by a physician who is very experienced in assessing fat location and orientation for best results. There is certainly fat around the belly button so most people need to have this area treated, again whether a "v" or horizontal depends on how the fat lies on your abdomen. The only time that the applicator should not be placed horizontally is if an umbilical hernia is present since this could cause complications of the hernia. Best wishes,  Mary Beth Mudd

A picture or examination would hel me to answer this question more accuratly.
If is not too much fat then there is more reason to do V or Diamond shape placement to get the right and more natural look. If there is too much fat and need debulking you might place it horizantaly the first time and then you can shape it with V or diamond shape placement.
