My facelift looks,worse then before m6 facelift. What should I do? (photos)

Based on your photos, you are experiencing the usual swelling and bruising encountered after surgery. I know it is hard, but try to remain patient as these issues slowly resolve over the coming weeks to months. Be sure to follow up with your surgeon and discuss your concerns. Good luck!

Your photos show post operative changes which will often resolve with more time.It is still early in your recovery period and I would advise being patient with yourhealing.

Recovery from a facelift can be very variable dependent on the individual.  This is really a better question for your own Surgeon/ Surgeon's staff who should be more than willing to discuss your concerns and reassure you.  Bruising is a part of facelift surgery, and you will recover in due course.

First of all, I would highly recommend that you discuss your concerns with your surgeon. Secondly, you are only 10 days out from pretty major surgery. The appearance shown in your pictures is relatively normal for someone who has had facial cosmetic surgery 10 days ago.  Your appearance now is no indication of what your final result will be.  It will take several months for the healing process to continue and your appearance will improve.  Be sure to follow up with your surgeon so that your progress can be monitored.  

It is way too early in the healing process to make a judgement.  Your bruising and swelling are more than some, and less than others.  The neck area is often "lumpy" to some degree for a month or two, depending upon what was done in the neck area.  Recovery depends upon what was done and how extensive.  Give it another week at least, before you make any kind of judgement.  Whereas some people are ready for the public in less than two weeks, others take much longer. Make sure you see your surgeon and allow him/her to address your concerns.  

HI! I am sorry you are having such a difficult recovery. Unfortunately, these things happen and with all facelifts, you tend to look worse before you look better. All of your changes look normal and should get better with time. Listen to your doctor and I would expect you to see gradual improvement soon.all the best

Hello Sfwager,I am sorry to hear about your concerns.  The good news is that you are only 10 days out from your surgery.  At 10 days you still have a substantial amount of swelling and bruising.  I tell my patients that by 14 days, 80% of your maximum swelling will be gone, but this means 20% is still left.  Over the course of the next two months, an additional 10% of the swelling will go away.  As the swelling and bruising is going away, it happens at different speeds in different areas.  This can leave a lumpy appearance.  It is kind of like a parking lot after it rains.  No matter how flat the lot looked, as the rain begins to evaporate, puddles remain in certain areas.  These puddles eventually go away, and your lumpiness should as well.  The swelling is being pulled by gravity, which means you neck is getting the brunt of the swelling.  I have my patients sleep in a recliner for the first 6 weeks to help the swelling go away faster.  I would recommend you continue to follow up closely with your surgeon to express your concern.  You will be amazed how things will start to improve in the next few days.  If you remain dissatisfied with your surgeon, consider consulting with a facial plastic surgeon in the future.I hope this helps and good luck.  

From your pictures you have significant bruising, swelling.  This is not atypical at 10 days after your surgery.  It can take several months for most of the swelling to resolve depending upon the technique of facelift and how much oozing/bleeding you had during surgery.  Be in contact with your surgeon as he/she may recommend a short course of oral steroids to help with the swelling.  Consolidated areas of bruising can be resolved more quickly by IPL treatments or with vascular lasers.  Arnica supplements that you can get at a health store might help as well.  I'd recommend warm wet compresses at this point to promote blood flow to the area, which will help with the bruising and swelling.  Try to sleep elevated some, and give it time.  It is too early to be concerned that your result will not be great.  Best regards.

You cannot judge the results of your surgery at this time. Your photos clearly demonstrate swelling and bruising, which is normal for this phase in your healing. Use of Arnica Montana or bromelein may hasten the resolution of your swelling/ bruising, but, in general, it takes about 2 months before just 90% of your swelling is gone anyhow. I tell all of my patients that they must be willing to accept temporary swelling, lumpiness, and discoloration. Though somewhat visually disconcerting, most people feel it is a negligible inconvenience to pay for the physical and psychological improvement they experience.It is not unusual for some people to go through a period of depression after surgery. No matter how much they wanted the operation beforehand and how much they were informed about what to expect postoperatively, patients are concerned when they see their face swollen and, perhaps discolored.Please be patient and realize that this is a temporary condition, which will subside shortly. The best “treatment” consists of busying yourself with the details of post-operative care and trying to divert your attention to other thoughts (T.V., a book, an unhurried walk in a peaceful place, or an automobile ride along a scenic route).You should have an open line of communication with your surgeon.
