Being a candidate for a mommy make over can mean many different things. Weight or BMI requirements can set by many different factors ranging from anesthesia, facility capabilities, surgeon preferences and operative bed capacity. Sometimes the procedure itself may have a requirement. Your BMI is 41. For a mommy makeover, a BMI less than 30 is ideal. This helps ensure we can delivery safe, effective anesthesia with quick recovery and reduce complications. Second, before moving forward with abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) I like to be ensure you are healthy and any underlying medical problems are address and well controlled. Meeting with a surgeon in person can help ensure that your entire health picture is being addressed and you are in the best possible health for surgery. Third, before any surgery, being at your lowest expected, healthy, sustainable weight is best. This allows us to remove as much extra skin as possible and be able to give you a long-lasting outcome. If you are having difficulty with weight loss, we often talk about other options such as surgical weight loss. From a procedural standpoint, when appropriate, I would offer you an extended abdominoplasty with liposuction of the posterior trunk (back and flanks) and consider staging additional liposuction and breast surgery (if desired) following recovery. As always, make sure your plastic surgeon is board-certified.
