Should you take Arnica 30c and Bromelain BEFORE surgery?

Is it safe or do you recommend taking Arnica 30c and Bromelain before and/or after surgery? I'm having BA, TT and flank lipo, my friend recommended it but my PS'S office doesn't seem to care either way.

The theory of homeopathics suggests that the supplement should be given at the time of onset of symptoms.  Close to the time of injury.  Think of it like a flu shot.  You can't get next years flu shot now, because your antibodies that form will rise, then fall before you are exposed.  Arnica Montana is supposed to mobilize enzymes and factors that help deal with injury and bruising.  If you take them way ahead of time, these levels will be wasted.  A day or two before, if before at all.

Hello! Thank you for your question! The recommendations for the use of these homeopathic medications are surgeon preference. I typically suggest the use of Arnica Montana to decrease swelling and bruising. It is an herbal medication that is propagated from the seeds of an herb. I, as well as my patients, have seen some benefit with the treatment in the postoperative period. Although there is little evidence to its effectiveness, I believe there is some benefit, and no harm. I recommend 4-5 tablets under the tongue 4x/day for 3-5 days prior and 5-7 days after the procedure. Hope that this helps! Best wishes!

I wouldn't take anything unless it's cleared by your own surgeon. These supplements don't really do anything to their probably harmless.

In my office, the routine is to start Arnica and Bromelain 3 days prior to the procedure and to continue until after the bruising subsides.  Your surgeon may have a different routine however.hope this helps and good luck

I encourage you to discuss all medications and supplements that you take with your surgeon.  If no recommendation is given you can follow the instructions included with the product.  These supplements are commonly taken both before and after surgery to help with bruising and swelling.
