No, you will not need to remove your copper IUD. You will need to remove any jewellery on the outside of your body for safety with the cautery. Please speak to your surgeon if you are concerned.Regards,
Your IUD should not have to be removed in order for you to have surgery. The concern would be metal jewelry such as external body piercings which can cause problems when electrocautery is used during the surgery. Make sure to discuss this with your surgeon and staff so they are aware of your concern.
In my experience, I have never recommended IUD removal prior to breast augmentation surgery. Hope this information is helpful.Dr. Ted Eisenberg, Board Certified Plastic Surgeon and Author
I do not ask my patients to remove an IUD prior to surgery. The concern is the use of the cautery and I have not found an IUD to be a problem.
IUDs are not usually removed during breast augmentation. However, it would still be best to inform your surgeon regarding this beforehand. Consult with him regarding all your concerns before the surgery to avoid complications and confusion afterwards.
I highly recommend you sharing this question with your surgeon as it is always nice to have awareness for them. I have not asked patients to remove their IUD before breast augmentations. We do recommend that they remove jewelry and piercings, however, you should be ok with the IUD.
Thanks for your question. I would mention this to your surgeon ahead of time, but in general I do not know of any reason that you would need your IUD removed prior to surgery. Take care and all the best.
In my experience, removal of an IUD is not recommended prior to breast augmentation, but I would recommend that you discuss this with your surgeon.Best Wishes,Dr. Sadrian, MD
Thanks for sharing your question. I can appreciate your concern. I do not usually ask my patients to remove their IUD prior to breast augmentation. Jewelry is usually recommended to be removed to prevent burning of the skin with the use of the electrocautery. Finally, make sure that your doctor is aware of your concerns. He should be able to guide you best in your care.Wishing you the best in your journey
Congratulations on your breast augmentation. In my practice it would not be necessary to remove your copper IUD before elective breast augmentation surgery. The concern about metal is the risk of contact with electrocautery which can cause burning. However cautery will not be used anyplace near your IUD thus in my opinion it is not a risk. However be sure to discuss this with your plastic surgeon.
This may be indentation of your hemiareolar incisions after breast augmentation but it also looks like you may have a variant of tuberous/tubular breast syndrome, which causes a bulgy, herniated-looking areola. This can be corrected in part with a circumareolar (Bennelli) mastopexy but if your...
Thanks for your question! If you were my patient, I would say no. I prefer my patients not "submerge" their fresh incision until I have cleared them at 3 weeks post-op. That being said, every plastic surgeon is different so I would reach out to yours specifically and see what he says. Good luck!
Capsular contracture can occur years after surgery. No one is absolutely certain what causes the late development of capsular contracture. However the most common explanation is that some event has resulted in the seating of bacteria into the bloodstream which then attaches to the implants a...
