Is it normal to develop frequent heartburns and new food allergies after breast augmentation surgery?

Hello, it is not typical to develop new food allergies or persistent heartburn after breast augmentation surgery.   It's possible that a person could have a reaction to a specific medication given around the time of surgery, but the procedure itself shouldn't cause an allergy to food.  Similarly, some medications like pain relievers can cause temporary heartburn or upset stomach, but it should resolve.  If you have persistent new symptoms you could discuss your concerns with your family doctor or surgeon.

I would not recommend having your implants removed because they are not the source of your food allergies and heartburn. Rest assured that breast augmentation does not cause food allergies or heartburn.If these symptoms persist, definitely meet with an doctor to discuss. Breast augmentations do not cause any systemic health issues.  If they did, plastic surgeons would not place them, and the FDA wouldn't allow it.Thanks for sharing!

Thank you for your question.There is no correlation between breast surgery and food allergies. Our bodies are constantly changing and we can become sensitive or intolerant to things after prolonged exposure. The surgery does not have anything to do with the development of allergies.

Most likely the symptoms you describe after breast augmentation are merely a coincidence. You should have a general health examination by your family physician or primary care doctor. No. Your implants can not cause you to develop food "allegories" or sensitivities. The more probable cause is one or more of the medications that you received before, during and/or after surgery. Are you still taking any pain medication? My guess is that as your lymphatic system eliminates the meds from your system, your symptoms should improve. If they don't then schedule an appointment with your doctor. Hope this helps and best of luck. 

hello thank you for your question and provided information as well.Evaluating your case , it appears that the antibiotics, analgesics and anti-inflammatories that you indicated were very strong and you took with a gastric protector, and perhaps that LACERATED a mucus your gastric mucosa.implants could not develop allergies or intolerances.It would be ideal to be consulted with your plastic surgeon to indicate gastric protector and relates with a gastro.

I am sorry to hear that you have certain symptoms now after breast implants.  There is no evidence or data to suggest that the symptoms your are having are a result of the breast implants.  I suspect there is some role for the medications that your are taking if you are still taking medications and perhaps the change in your activity level.  I would eat and do whatever you need to feel better and give it some time.  You will likely get back to your usual routine.  If you feel that you are not, of course, there is the option of having the breast implants removed.Good luck with the rest of your recovery.Dr. Remus Repta
