I got a nose job 11 days ago and my cast was removed after 7 days.

Dear sofiasomerhalder, Post op instructions differ from surgeon to surgeon. For example, at our practice we remove the splint after 6-8 days and then the patient performs "night taping" (placement of a 1/2" steri strip just above the nasal tip to encourage swelling to dissipate quicker) for 2 additional weeks. When the splint is removed, the nose tends to increase in swelling slightly, and your surgeon likely has you put the cast back on to keep that in check. I would listen to their instructions, and call their office if you have any confusion. Hope this helps!

Thank you very much for your question.It's too early to make value judgments with only eleven days after a rhinoplasty.Swelling after a rhinoplasty depends of the surgery complexity.In this regard, the nasal swelling Post-op It can last from two weeks to two months.To reduce this swelling, I recommend you perform delicates daily lymphatic drainage massage therapy over the face (around the nose) avoid sun exposure, and take pain/inflamation pills, as your surgeron precribe you.Respectfully, Dr. Emmanuel Mallol Cotes.-

 Every rhinoplasty surgeon has their own preference for how long a cast or splint should be lef on following surgery. I personally leave the splint on for 5 to 7 days. After that time  I do not feel that there is added benefit to keeping it on. Other physicians may have a different opinion. If your physician prefers to leave the cast on  One would assume that he believes it to benefit you and the final outcome. Discuss your concerns with your physician,  and he or she will be able to guide you now that the cast has come off. 

Great question.  There are many ways doctors treat their patients post op.  Given your doctors experience, this has worked best in his patients.  We all handle things differently.  Do your best to follow your doctors postop instructions to ensure the best possible outcome.  All surgery looks good when finished but a lot is the healing of the patient that determines the final outcome.  Stay strong, hope you love your new nose!!!

I usually have patients wear a nasal splint for about a week. Some surgeons prefer them longer. It is best to ask your surgeon.

Interesting question. Thanks for posting it. The nasal cast helps the bones set in place. It also acts to protect the nose from external forces. Surgeons may choose to use or not use a nasal cast. Once placed, the length of time the cast remains depends on surgeon preference that is guided by experience, the patient's anatomy and the details of the surgery.  In short, every surgeon has a different philosophy, which is why patient's should choose their surgeon carefully.  In your case, only your surgeon knows the exact reasoning behind the recommendation. Thanks for your question. Every doctor has a slightly different protocol regarding the cast and tape. Most of this is based on their own experiences or how they have been trained. In general, wearing the cast at night prevents you from accidentally injuring it. Some may feel that it helps control the swelling. Either way, its best to follow your doctor's instructions as this is what he/she feels works best for them. Good luck with your healing process!
