I had a rhinoplasty done almost 4 months ago now. At first, my nose looked amazing. There was no more bump, and the tip looked perfect. However, a few weeks post op, my surgeon decided to give me an injection to decrease the swelling. At first, this worked as well but as time progressed a dent began to form at the injection site. Now my nose doesn't look as good, and my skin is thin. You can see every bump and I am not happy. How can this be fixed?

Answer: Improving dent in nose Steroid injections can sometimes cause thinning of skin and soft tissue, especially if overdone in a localized area. In some cases, the thinning may improve with time. If the dent persists then filler injections or graft placement may be necessary for correction. The first step is to discuss your options with your operating surgeon and decide on a plan of action. If your rhinoplasty was only 4 months ago there is almost certainly normal post operative swelling which has not fully resolved. Final result from rhinoplasty is expected to take 12 months.

Answer: Post-op rhinoplasty healing - to inject and what to inject. Thank you for your question. Though seeing a picture would allow for a more accurate answer, your text is excellent. After surgery the nose has to decrease in swelling and the skin/soft tissue needs to shrink-wrap around the structure (made of cartilage and bone). When patients have very thin skin, every little bump and depression is more visible. An injection (presumed to be a steroid) to reduce swelling may lead to atrophy or thinning of skin and soft tissue. This may lead to a dent or depression. Sometimes, the body will fill in this spot with collagen over time. If there is a persistent dent, a small amount of filler may be injected to smooth the contour. At this point, I would urge you to see the surgeon who did your operation to discuss your concerns. The good news is that your nose looked amazing at one point in the healing process, and thus, there is hope that in due time, you can have your amazing result back and you can enjoy your beautiful nose. Good luck from Manhattan.
