1 day post op BA, advice for fluid retention and swelling?

Thank you for sharing your question and congratulations on your augmentation!  Swelling after surgery is common and, despite your supplementation, will take time to fully resolve.  Typically your body will mobilize the excess fluid it is retaining on days 3-5 and you will see steady improvement over the following week.  Hope this helps.

I encourage my patients to immediately return to normal activities as soon as possible. I don't believe that it is important to drink any more than you would normally. The abdominal fluid retention and swelling will disappear on their own, and I don't think any intervention is needed.

Thank you for your question.  Rest and fluids are always good recommendations for recovery.  Thank being said, should you be particularly concerned with fluid retention, my advice is to follow-up with your plastic surgeon for an evaluation.  Best of luck.

Brad8003. It sounds like you are experiencing normal postoperative swelling after breast augmentation surgery. There is really no way to speed up the recovery process other than drinking lots of fluids and allowing your body to heal. Check in with your plastic surgeon and try to stay patient. Good luck.

Thank you for your question. This is a very common occurance and there is nothing you can do to expedite the processs. 

Congratulations on having undergone the breast augmentation procedure. Based on your description, it seems that you are doing very well.  Some degree of fluid retention and swelling is certainly normal; I would not suggest that you take any specific measures to expedite resolution of the swelling and fluid retention.  This resolution will occur naturally over the course of the next several days.   Remember that any measure that you take, such as the use of diuretics, has potential problems associated with it (such as electrolyte disturbances). Best wishes for an outcome that you will be very pleased with long-term.

You are very early in your post-operative recovery process and sounds like things are going well.  I would be careful about drinking too much water.  There is a point where you can actually drink too much water and this can be detrimental to your recovery.  The key is to be patient throughout the recovery process.  Take care,Timothy A.
