Are my breasts tubular? How much can surgery help them?

I am sorry to hear of how self-conscious you are about your breast shape.From what I can see in the photographs, you do have a particular type of shape referred to as tuberous (or sometimes tubular). There are a variety of approaches that can be taken to re-shape your breasts. Personally, I tend to do this as a one-stage operation, that leaves a scar around the areola and a small scar under the breast crease.Please ensure you see a plastic surgeon with experience in tuberous breast surgery, as it can be challenging to get a good result.I hope this helps, and wish you luck taking things forwards.

Thank you for your question and photographs and so sorry to hear that you have been made to feel insecure about your appearance.  Tuberous breasts present in different degrees of severity.  Three hallmark feature of tuberous breasts include enlarged areolas, herniation of breast tissue through the areola, and a constricted base.  Your photograph indicates that you do, in fact have some of these features.  My advice would be to consult with a board certified plastic surgeon should you wish to consider a better breast shape and appearance.  Surgery costs do vary by geographical area and experience.  Best of luck.

Dear Tigress56,tuberous breasts are not simply small or underdeveloped breasts. The appearance of the breast can range from mild to severe, and typical traits include: enlarged, puffy areola, rather wide spacing between the breasts, very little breast tissue, sagging, higher than normal inferior breast fold, and narrow base at the chest wall.
Tuberous breasts can rarely be corrected without implants or at least a small one. The breast needs to be scored radially from the inside to expand it. If you don't place an implant behind the radial scoring it will fall back to its original state. You could theoretically remove the implant at a later day and graft with fat but that would be a separate surgery.Daniel Barrett, MD

Hi, Let me start off by saying this is perfectly normal. You do have tuberous breasts. The key is to only pursue breast augmentation if they make you unhappy. Don't worry about what partners think, because I can promise you that when the right partner comes along, they will love you for you, not your breasts. Tuberous breast are caused by constricted lower pole of the breast. The good news is, this is absolutely fixable! With pocket modification and placement of breast implants your breasts can look drastically different. If your areolas are bothersome to you as well, they can be reduced at the same time. My recommendation to you is to find pictures of individuals with the same body shape with breasts that you find desirable. Make consultation appointments with Board Certified Plastic Surgeons in your area and bring those pictures with you so they have an idea of what look you want. Most surgeons offices will let you try on sizers to help you pick the size right for you. You may even be able to find an office in your area that has the Vectra 3D imaging like our office, which can provide you with before and projected after pictures so that you can have a better idea of what your body will look like with the type of breast implants you are considering. You do appear to have tuberous breasts, in that there is a raised breast fold, narrowed breast base, less lower pole breast tissue and puffiness of the areolae. It is usual in our practice to correct these issues at a single stage using a breast implant often combined with fat graft and an areolar reduction and repair. This would leave you with a scar around your areola and a second in the breast crease on each side. Quotes for this will vary considerably between practitioners, so it is worth looking around. However you shouldn't base your decision on cost alone - this is not the most straightforward breast surgery and I would also recommend you check the credentials of your surgeon and ask to see photos of previous corrections.

Hi. Tuberous breast condition can be corrected by Breast Lift with Implants, to be placed under your pectoral muscles. No need  for feeling insecure, for this is something that can be solve. But you have to do it for you not for anyone.

Sorry to hear about the experience you had in the past. From the photos you provided, you do have some of the criteria of tubular breast mainly constricted base of the breast with high fold, in addition ro large areola.
I will advise you to see a plastic surgeon with experience in dealing with such condition. I do think you will benefit from a combination of breast implant in addition to reshape the breast tissue and releasing the constriction as well as reducing the areola and lifting the nipple.

Thank you for your question.  I am sorry that some past experiences have made you feel so self-conscious about your breast appearance.  And while you do have tuberous breasts, there are ways this problem can be addressed.Tuberous breasts are defined by a tight, constricted lower pole of the breast, herniation/enlargement of the nipple/areola complex, and often, sagging of the breast over the bottom fold of the breast.Correction frequently entails placing an implant under the breast to add volume and shaping to the bottom of the breasts, releasing of the tight, constricting bands in the lower breasts allowing the breasts to spread out over the implant, lifting and positioning the nipple in the correct aesthetic placement.  Correction of size asymmetry is frequently addressed by using different size implants.There are many women out there who have the exact problems you do and even if they never do anything  to correct those issues, they should never be made uncomfortable  or self conscious  about their breasts.  If you do decide to see what options are available, a consultation with a board-certified plastic surgeon is your first step to developing the treatment plant that works for you.  Best of luck to you.
