I tried icing the fat underneath my chin for an hour and a half.

It's human nature to wonder if you can do what a machine can do when, essentially, you're just "freezing" fat. But although CoolSculpting is said to "freeze fat", it's not meant in a literal sense.Fat cells treated by CoolSculpting reach "near-freezing" temperatures, but not the same temperatures of ice. Ice applied to the skin CAN be damaging, so do-it-yourself CoolSculpting without the benefit of the science behind real CoolSculpting can be somewhat risky.Frostbite is real and it is dangerous, so put your ice cubes back in the freezer. If your skin is blistered, turns white or dark or becomes painful, do see a doctor. 

Thank you for your question. Icing an area is not the same as CoolSculpting and can be very unsafe. See your doctor if your skin changes colour. If you are interested in CoolSculpting, I would recommend that you see a board certified plastic surgeon for an in-person consultation. Thank you for your question. Putting ice under the chin will not provide the same results Coolsculpting. The Coolsculpting technology was developed and studied for years before release to the public. There are safety mechanisms in place as well as clinic trials to prove its efficacy. Putting ice directly on skin can cause frostbite. Chances are you will be fine as long as the skin doesn't turn colors. Keep an eye on it. I hope this helps,

I would not recommend doing this on any area of the body as you can damage your skin and underlying anatomy. Remember Cool Sculpt has been studied for years and has found to be safe in the right patient using safe and recommended settings. Remember to keep safe and do not try this again at home. 

I agree with Dr. Heck below, please do not seek fat reduction by icing an area. Cool Sculpt is an FDA studied and approved method by which the fat is exposed to cold at a safe amount of time and temperature. Please seek medical advice in your local area. 

I would seek treatment. Most likely you didn't injure yourself but hard to know just with online inquiry. This will NOT reduce fat. The cool sculpt machine has a patent technology and temperature that is safe and studied extensively. Please do not try this method at home it simply is not safe. Please seek help in your local area. 

If only it were that simple..... Many millions of dollars went in to researching and developing Coolsculpting (and Cool Mini) to make sure it was safe and effective for treating unwanted fat.  Coolsculpting protects the skin from harmful temperatures and keeps it from freezing while getting to the precise temperature necessary to destroy fat cells and only fat cells.  No more ice.  You can actually cause yourself terrible and irreparable damage. Have yourself checked out as soon as possible to make sure no damage has occurred. 

There is a great distinction between icing your skin and CoolSculpting. Using ice for a long period of time will not be effective. This can cause tissue damage and as the ice melts it is not keeping a consistent temperature. To avoid any skin injury during a CoolSculpting treatment, a gel pad is applied to the desired treatment area to protect the skin from frostbite and the machine delivers a controlled temperature to the area.  Find a CoolSculpting provider near you if you would like to pursue a safe and effective way to rid of unwanted fat.

Galatea131313, applying ice to an area of unwanted fat is not the same as CoolSculpting. The CoolSculpting technology supplies a specific temperature to the area and targets that area for delivery. Simple application of ice unfortunately is NOT equivalent and likely will not result in fat reduction, but could cause some skin (epidermal and /or dermal) injury as well.
