As far as smoking marijuana before rhinoplasty, it would be best to follow up with your Plastic Surgeon. Best of luck!
Defintely stop a few weeks before. Marijuana can affect your lungs and airway which are important especially after rhinoplasty. Also THC can stay in your system a little no time and we aren't sure what effect that may have with other medicine interactions..
Thank you for your question. It's best to avoid smoking for at least two weeks prior to rhinoplasty. This applies not only to conventional cigarettes, but also to marijuana. Also make sure to avoid smoking marijuana for at least two weeks after surgery as it may interfere with your healing process. Smoking after surgery may restrict the flow of blood to the healing areas, exacerbate swelling, and prolong recovery. I'd recommend to consult with your plastic surgeon as he or she may have different guidelines for smoking. An in-person exam with a board certified plastic surgeon is always the best way to fully assess your needs and address your concerns. Best of luck!
thank you for reaching out. As mentioned before, you will not likely hear that it is OK. I would suggest you stop at least 2 weeks prior to surgery, but the best advise I can give is that you reveal any and all usage to your surgeon as well as your anesthesiologist so they can be aware and take the very best care of you. Best of luck. Dr. Kim
I don't think there are any of us that would tell you that is ok. As far as wound healing goes THC does not affect scars and healing. Nicotine does impact healing greatly.
It's important to stop smoking all products prior to a rhinoplasty procedure to prevent complications such as infection or skin process. Smokers have a higher incidence of nicotine, vasomotor constrictive compounds, and a higher carbon monoxide component which can lead to complications.
You always want to minimize the potential for complications in any surgical procedure and especially in an elective cosmetic operation. Smoking affects and delays wound healing. The exact amount of time to be smoking free is debatable, ranging from 10 days to 3 months preoperatively (depending on the plastic surgeons prior experience and preference) and at least 2 weeks postoperatively. You should discuss your smoking of any substance with your surgeon before proceeding. The plastic surgeon should be certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and ideally a member of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS). Rhinoplasty is a surgery to improve the shape of your nose for breathing or appearance. The healing process is just as important as the surgery. Smoking before surgery can affect how you handle the general anesthesia. Smoking after surgery affects wound healing. Avoiding all forms of smoking (2 months before and 2 months after) improves your chances of having a safe and happy outcome. Safety comes first.
I would advise you not to smoke anything for at least 3 weeks prior to surgery and 6 weeks after for a better result. Smoking slows healing, and therefore your health could be compromised.
You have more of a retracted ala than a hanging columella. A cartilage graft can be used to fix this. In addition your tip is bulbous and slightly inferiorly rotated. This can be fixed with sutures and reduction of cartilage.
Recovering from rhinoplasty is a healing process. If you had rib cartilage harvested, you may be sore in two locations. Depending on the technique your surgeon used, you may be sore for a week or longer than a month. I make an incision that is 3/4 of an inch long and I do not cut the muscle....
