I had a tummy tuck 9 weeks ago. I am pleased with the results except I am retaining fluid in my pelvic area and upper thighs. Is this normal? What can I do to get rid of the fluid?

Answer: Managing swelling and fluid after an abdominoplasty Hello and thank you for your question. Swelling can occur 9 weeks after an abdominoplasty and can be very normal. However, if there is a fluid collection, this may represent a seroma and may require drainage. You should contact your plastic surgeon and ask him/her to evaluate you. Best wishes and good luck.

Answer: Retaining fluid after tummy tuck Congratulations on your tummy tuck.I am assuming that your "retaining fluid" is tissue swelling rather than seroma. You are expected to have tissue swelling after tummy tuck. Although most swelling decreases within 6 weeks, depending on your body and extent of liposuction, you may experience swelling for a longer duration.Due to gravity, you would have swelling in the pelvic, hip, thigh areas.Managing and compression over the areas should help. Please also check back with your plastic surgeon to be evaluated in-person.Good luck with your continued recovery.
