Are there any treatments, if any, for tummy tuck scars? I'm contemplating having a tummy tuck but I am having a hard time processing the long scar. I need a full time tuck, not a mini one since I need muscle repair. I read about laser scar removal with 1540 fractional laser. Any thoughts? Suggestions? Thank you very much in advance!

Answer: Tummy Tuck Scar Removal It may take several months for a tummy tuck patient’s scars to soften, for sensation to return, and for relaxing of the tight sensation in the abdomen. In the case of extensive surgery, abdominoplasty recovery can be uncomfortable and may take longer. Scars may stay red, become thick or widen . It can take 12-18 months for the scars to settle. These can be improved with topical treatments such as BioCorneum, Scar Guard , Scar Fade and Mederma. Redness can be improved with laser treatments and the scars can be kept narrow with products such as Embrace. On occasion, keloids or hypertrophic scars can develop and will need treatment including Kenalog, 5FU and laser.#scar #healing #Topicaltreatments

Answer: Tummy Tuck Scars In general tummy tuck incisions tend to heal very well but this process can take months or longer. Some patients however can develop thicker or darker scars, and it's important to consider this risks and talk with your surgeon about any concerns they may have based on your anatomy, skin quality, etc. We like using silicone sheets, pressure and massage postop as it seems to helps soften and flatten the scars, but speak with your surgeon about his or her particualr regimen, and patience is important-- it can take a year or longer to see the final results.
