Are there any treatments, if any, for tummy tuck scars? I'm contemplating having a tummy tuck but I am having a hard time processing the long scar. I need a full time tuck, not a mini one since I need muscle repair. I read about laser scar removal with 1540 fractional laser. Any thoughts? Suggestions? Thank you very much in advance!
Answer: Tummy Tuck Scars That’s a great question and one that I hear often. The scar is definitely a trade-off for a tight, flat stomach, but it is hidden well below the panty line. We do everything we can to reduce tension on the incision in hopes of a thin flat scar, but there will always be a scar – complete removal is not an option. However, there are many things that can be done to reduce the appearance of the scar. Most scars go through a phase of healing where it is normal to be red or dark in color, and this improves over the first 1-2 years following surgery.Massage, moisturization, and sun avoidance all can help improve the appearance of scars.I have my patients use a silicone-based scar gel or tape starting at about three weeks after surgery and continuing for 3 months. Silicone is a product that has been proven to help soften and flatten scars. If scars are reddened, there are lasers that can target the red color to help it fade. Good luck with your surgery!

Answer: Tummy Tuck Scar Removal It may take several months for a tummy tuck patient’s scars to soften, for sensation to return, and for relaxing of the tight sensation in the abdomen. In the case of extensive surgery, abdominoplasty recovery can be uncomfortable and may take longer. Scars may stay red, become thick or widen . It can take 12-18 months for the scars to settle. These can be improved with topical treatments such as BioCorneum, Scar Guard , Scar Fade and Mederma. Redness can be improved with laser treatments and the scars can be kept narrow with products such as Embrace. On occasion, keloids or hypertrophic scars can develop and will need treatment including Kenalog, 5FU and laser.#scar #healing #Topicaltreatments
