Can I still have laparoscopic gallbladder surgery after Tummy tuck?

I had a TT and liposuction done 8 years ago. My belly button was removed with excess skin and fat. Can I still safely have my gallbladder removed through laparoscopic method?

Hello,Eight years after your TT and liposuction iyou can undergo a laparoscopic gallbladder safely.  A TT does not affect your intra-abdominal area where your gallbladder is located so your procedure should not be any different than if you had it before your TT.Best of luck with your surgery!Dr. Rednam

Thank you for your question.  It is perfectly safe to have a laparoscopic procedure after a tummy tuck.  The abdominal wall structure is intact and unaffected by your prior surgery.  The procedure can proceed as it normally would.  Best wishes!

Great question Cathy!Laparoscopic surgery has been perfected over the past 25 years.  It involves placing large trocars that are pushed through allowing instruments to pass into the abdominal cavity.  These procedures can be performed after abdominoplasty. There is typically a trocar placed in the midline through the navel.  Here there may be thicker tissues to go through if you had your muscle fascia tightened.  This tightening is typically performed by a folding over of the muscle fascia layer in the midline secured with permanent sutures.  I would mention this to your surgeon so she or he may move the trocar off the midline slightly within the navel to avoid this area.  You are going to feel so much better.   Thank  you.

Shouldn't be a problem to have a laparoscopic surgery after s tummy tuck as the port sites are small and usually don't interfere with the surgery

Laproscopic surgery after a Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty) is very safe. The only concern is the suture used to repair the muscle separation. If a laproscope port is needed at the belly button I have the surgeon place it on the left side of the belly button using the existing scar already present around the belly button. I always place the suture to repair the muscle separation on the right side of the belly button so that we can be safe with placement of any incision on the left. The Plastic Surgeon who performed the Tummy Tuck will know which side is safe.
