I had lipo done on the 15 to inner thighs and knees. Is this blood clots? (photos)

Thank you for submitting your question and photo.  It is common to have bruising and swelling in the first week after liposuction of the inner thighs and knees.  Any swelling should be examined by a physician today.  Start with calling ypur surgeon now.   Best Wishes.

This looks like swelling and bruising which is common for 2-3 weeks after the procedure. I suggest speaking to your physician if you are concerned and consider leg stockings.  Best, Dr. Emer.

The deep venous thrombosis is at the
level of the deeper veins of the legs. Usually characterized for severe
swelling to the legs.

On your case the bruising is
superficial and away from the area of surgery. Unlikely to be the most
worrisome condition. However, thorough physical examination is needed to rule
out the diagnosis.



Finally, make sure that your doctor is
aware of your process. He should be able to guide you best in your care.

 In general if a patient shows any possible symptoms or even mentions the idea of having a blood clot after surgery we typically recommend they at minimum contacts are there surgeon and do so sooner rather than later. That said it is unlikely you have a blood clot in your vein.Swelling below the area treated is common.Typically the treatment is leg elevations bringing your foot above your heart several hours a day.  Excessively tight compression garments can aggravate this as well. All that said I would definitely contact your plastic surgeon and let him or her know what's going on.  while unlikely blood clots in the veins in the legs thighs and pelvis can break loose and go to the lungs causing a fatal pulmonary embolism. Best,Mats Hagstrom, MD 

 It is common to have bruising and swelling in the areas below liposuction secondary to gravitational factors and lymphatic drainage factors. However, a blood clot in the veins of the calf could cause this problem. It is safest to have this evaluated in the emergency room as soon as possible to prevent potentially dangerous consequences. It is always best to lean on the safety side after having any procedure. Best wishes.

Not necessarily - it's pretty common to have swelling anywhere below the site of the surgery (gravity) and it's not uncommon to have more bruising or swelling on one side than the other.  And blood clots are typically associated with unilateral (one-sided) pain or swelling of a calf.That being said, the potentially dangerous consequences of blood clots are so significant that you need to contact your PS ASAP and discuss the situation.  You may need to be seen on an urgent basis to exclude this possibility.I hope that this helps and good luck,Dr. Alan EnglerMember of #RealSelf100
