I'm 2 1/2 weeks post-op from a breast lift and liposuction on thighs. I've been walking two miles in the morning and two miles in the evening, but I would really like to do more. My surgeon is very vague about this issue. Can I start doing body weight squats yet? Chair sits? Lunges? She said I can do an elliptical but said not to get my heart rate up, which seems impossible. I'm feeling sluggish and fluffy after 2 1/2 weeks with walking as my sole means of exercise.

Answer: Exercise after liposuction We generally like to refer patients to what their individual surgeon recommends for postoperative activities and management. In my practice I encourage patients to get back to normal activity as soon as possible.I asked them not to engage in activity that causes discomfort after the procedure. Most patients are back to full unrestricted exercise for 2 to 3 weeks.I don't see what park rate has to do with liposuction recovery but I'm sure your plastic surgeon has some thoughts behind his or her statements. Best,Mats Hagstrom M.D.

Answer: #Liposuction - exercise after lipo I normally advise no exercise for three weeks post-op and then, depending on what procedure(s) were done and how the patient is doing, light exercise - starting slowly, and advancing as tolerated. You should, of course, follow the guidelines of your own surgeon. If there is any question, I would do less rather than more until you have that cleared up by your surgeon.I hope that this helps and good luck,Dr. Alan ENglerMember of #RealSelf100
