Hello: I had a consult with surgeon for liposuction of back, flank, ab and fat grafting. The surgeon told me he is not going to touch my abdominal because of my previously abdominoplasty. He said there are scar tissues and he won't know what the other surgeon has done. He said it's going to be very risky. How big of risk is it to do lipo after tummy tuck? Should I forgo the lipo of abdomen? Thanks
Answer: How dangerous is Lipo ~5 years after tummy tuck? Thanks for your question. You will need an in person evaluation in order to see if you're a good candidate for liposuction. You definitely have to choose your surgeon correctly and make sure that he/she has the training and experience to meet your goals with absolute safety. Don’t settle for less than a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon with specialized expertise in this procedure.

Answer: How dangerous is Lipo ~5 years after tummy tuck? Liposuction after TT can be intrinsically more difficult and require more skill due to the underlying scar tissue, which results in irregular surgical paths and false pathways. These procedures require precision, patience, and perseverance. Obtain a second opinion from a board certified PS who performs hundreds of abdominal enhancement surgeries each year with favorable patient reviews and galleries of before and after photos on his/her website showing you abdominal lipo results.

Answer: How dangerous is Lipo ~5 years after tummy tuck? Could a liposuction of the abdomen be performed five years after a tummy tuck? With few exceptions, I would say most definitely. I have done this many times through the use and have never had a problem. Yes, there is scar tissue from the TT, and the plastic surgeon must be careful and skilled. I'm assuming there are no abdominal wall hernias. My personal preference is the "tickle liposuction" technology because with this instrument the liposuction cannula penetrates through the scar tissue with ease. Everything is controlled without using excessive physical pressure. If you actually need a liposuction of the abdomen, I would seek a second opinion. Thank you for your question, and best of luck to you.

Answer: Liposuction candidate Dear OKGina, previous tummy tuck surgery is not a contraindication for liposuction. If you are considering a surgery, I would suggest you to consult another board-certified plastic surgeon. Only after a thorough examination you will get more information and recommendations. Answer: How dangerous is Lipo ~5 years after tummy tuck? Liposuction after a TT is actually fairly common and I don't see why any board certified plastic surgeon would have a problem with it. An in-person examination plus, if necessary, an abdominal ultrasound should rule out any doubts or abnormalities. Without at least seeing your photos, I would have to take you on your word, because I do not know what he saw to think this would be risky. In that case, I believe you should look for a second opinion.Best of luck!Dr. Miguel Mota
