You can try ice or apply firm pressure between two fingers on the lips for a few days, for 5 mins a time, to help reduce swelling. It will resolve in 1-2 weeks. If you're unhappy with your final results, you can have it reversed with hyaluronidase and try a different technique next time. Arnika, vitamin C pills, and PDT therapy also help.  Best, Dr. Emer.

Some swelling is normal following lip injections. This should resolve in the coming weeks, but if it doesn't please see a core physician for evaluation. Ice and arnica may help at this time. You should have future injections performed by a core physician (facial plastic surgeon, plastic surgeon, or dermatologist) as opposed to "the lady" at the spa. This is because we know the most about facial anatomy and have more advanced injectable training.  Additionally, unless a physician is on staff at this spa, there is no guarantee that you are receiving real product.  Good luck!

Hi Mia,Thank you for your question.Swelling after lip filler is very common. The lips are highly vascular and tend to swell and bruise more often than other areas. The degree of swelling varies depends on several factors, such as how much product is used and whether or not there is bruising. Your lips do seem more swollen than usual but fortunately most of the swelling should resolve within 2 weeks. Ice will help in the meantime.Hope this helps!

Thank you for your question. It is common to have swelling after lip augmentation and can take up 2 weeks to resolve. You can ice the area for the first 24 hours after injection to help reduce swelling. Taking ibuprofen or Motrin will help with any inflammation. However, I recommend having this evaluated by your treating physician as this seems like excessive swelling that may require steroids and prednisone. Best of Luck!

Swelling is common after lip injections and can last up to two weeks.  I would recommend applying ice intermittently and sleeping with your head raised to minimize swelling.  If it doesn't improve over the next few days, contact your injector for an evaluation.

Swelling and bruising is normal after lip filler injection. I would ice and sleep with your head elevated. The swelling should come down over the next few days but may take up to 2 weeks to completely resolve. 

In our practice we recommend that patients apply ice and sit/sleep with their head up for approximately 48 hours. This can help significantly with the swelling. 

Lip augmentation is a procedure where filler is injected into the lips to increase volume and enhance the borders of the lips. Just by poking the lips with the needle causes swelling.



The reactive swelling goes down in the first 2 days. Then it takes 2 weeks for the filler to absorb water and reach your final result. Bruising may cause further prolonged swelling. Some strategies to help including icing your lips. The goal is to cool them down, not freeze them. Allergy medication (Zyrtec) can help with swelling too. Steroid absolutely help with swelling, but it can elevate your blood pressure and blood sugar level. You'll need to check with your doctor before starting steroids. Make sure you follow-up with your doctor so they can track your progress to a safe and happy result. Safety comes first. 

Swelling after lip injections in very normal. Ice and time will resolve the swelling. It looks like you have significant swelling from the injections. Often times I will prescribe an oral steroid for patients who have above average swelling. I would recommend you contact the office to see if this can be prescribed for you. 

I would say that the swelling is more than I would expect and I would give you steroids. An IM shot will work faster followed by oral prednisone. If the lips are massaged/manipulated after the injection, this can occur. I would call the office again or stop by.
