Juvederm swelling - how much smaller will my lips go from day two? (Photo)

Hi,Thank you for your question.Swelling after lip filler can take up to 2 weeks to resolve due to the high vascularity of lips. In my experience, the lips tend to be the most swollen the first 3 days after the initial injection but may take up to 2 weeks depending on the amount of product used and whether there was any bruising. From the photos, it looks like you may have a small bruise at the left upper lip. It may be a good idea to wait for the swelling to resolve and then decide whether or not you're happy with the results. You can also consider adding some filler in the lower lip to for a more classic lip shape, where the bottom lip is larger than the top lip. Worst case scenario, you can have the filler removed using a product called hyaluronidase that will breakdown the existing fillerHope this helps!

Yes, this looks like typical swelling and will subside in 1-2 weeks. If you're unhappy with your final results, you can have it reversed with hyaluronidase and try a different technique next time. Best, Dr. Emer

Thank you for your question. It is always best to inject both lips. However, having some swelling after kip augmentation is normal and should resolve in 2 weeks. I recommend having some filler injected into your lower lip. If you are unhappy with the results you can always have the filler dissolved with hyaluronidase. Best of Luck!

It is common for the lips to swell and bruising to occur with lip injections.  It can last up to two weeks.  I recommend using ice for the first few days and keeping your head elevated.  You should see an improvement over the first several days.  If you do not notice the swelling decreasing, contact your provider for an evaluation.

Some swelling and bruising is common after any filler injection, particularly in the lips. In your case, I would have injected both the upper and lower lips. The duck lip appearance happens when the the upper lip is overfilled relative to the lower lip. I would expect some of the swelling to go down over the next few days but I still believe you will need some filler injected into your lower lip.

Hi GMA,     It appears that your marginal mandibular nerve was cut during surgery. You can target the DLI (Depressor Labialis Inferioris) with Botox to try and make it more symmetric on the left side.  Good luck, Dr. Downie 

Swelling after lip augmentation is common and may persist for a couple of weeks. If it continues for more than 2 weeks, consult your injector. Note: Restylane silk is generally a better option for lip augmentation than juvederm as it is a smaller molecule with less chance and less degree for swelling. 

Thank you for your question and photos. It will take up to two weeks for all swelling to resolve. At that point you can determine what the final look of your lips will be. If you are still unhappy with your results you can go back to have them evened out. The bottom lip should be slightly larger then the top lip for a more natural look. 

There are two factors involved with swelling, one is the swelling related from the needle going in and out. This swelling is usually better in about 3 days. Juvederm because of its nature is a substance that will absorb water, so while some of the swelling decreases, at the same time you will have some plumping.

I would've injected both lips in your case. I don't think this will subside enough to look natural. I agree that having the upper lip larger than the lower is unnatural and looks "duck" like. Either place more in the lower lip or dissolve the top lip filler.
