Hello! I wanted to to get the BA for a while now. My friend got it last year. She really liked the doctor and recommend me him. So my made the deposit for the sugere. But later on I did my research and and saw that he is not a plastic surgeon. He is a dentist with cosmetic surgery certified. Is it risky? Can I get my money back? Or it should be fine with consmetic surgeon ? Thank you!
Answer: Dentist for BA I am sorry for your situation, but I am glad you did your research! The closer you get to your surgery date, the harder it will be to get your surgery deposit back. I would recommend calling his office to see what can be done. I think you know the answer to the rest of your questions. It is definitely risky. Everything might be fine (like it was for your friend), but untrained/inexperienced surgeons are going to have a much higher percentage of surgical errors. If you were to have a complication that required hospitalization they could no longer take care of you, because they don't have privileges to do breast augmentations or care for breast augmentation patients in a hospital.

Answer: Finding the right surgeon It is probably not advisable to get a breast augmentation from a dentist. You should always go to a board certified surgeon. Talk to your doctor's office about the refund for the deposit. Far more important than the technique is the skill and experience of your plastic surgeon. Choose your surgeon rather than the technique and let them explain why one technique may be better than another. See the below link on some suggestions on finding the most qualified Plastic Surgeon for a Breast Augmentation.

Answer: Surgery Thank you for your question. I would recommend doing everything you can to get your money back. If you went ahead with the surgery and did not get the result you liked, you would not only be out of the money, but also have an unacceptable result. It's good you did your research, and its best to have surgery by a board certified plastic surgeon who has had formal training through a plastic surgery program and has admitting privileges at a hospital for plastic surgery issues if there were a complication. All the best,

Answer: Can I get my deposit refund now that I found out that the surgeon for my BA is not a plastic board certified? Thank you for your question and congratulations on having done your homework. I would strongly counsel you to reconsider your decision to pursue a breast augmentation with anyone other than a board certified plastic surgeon. A cheaper initial expense may lead to a much more costly one down the line.

Answer: Breast augmentation from a cosmetic surgeon/dentist vs by a Plastic Surgeon You pose a very important question when undergoing any type of cosmetic procedure. The dentist you are referring to may have had adequate training for uncomplicated breast procedures, however, they do not undergo the rigorous general surgery residency and plastic surgery residency (anywhere from 5-8 years after medical school) that a board-certified plastic surgeon completes. Dentists complete 4 years of dental school, and if they are interested in performing cosmetic surgery, it is informal training without the hospital experience. Cosmetic surgeons such as dentists cannot admit patients into a hospital for cosmetic procedures; in the event that you had any type of complication (which is rare but does occur) from your augmentation surgery, your original surgeon would not be able to take care of you if you were to be admitted. In addition, plastic surgeons have a depth of training and experience with surgery, anatomy, and general medical knowledge. I would urge you to find and consult with a plastic surgeon who is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery (which is one of the American Board of Medical Specialties). I wish you the best in your decision to have a breast augmentation procedure.
