As long as your remaining kidney is functioning normally I can think of no reason why you wouldn't be able to undergo a breast augmentation. And after donating a kidney, I can't think of anyone more deserving than you to do something for yourself.Best of luck to you in both operations!G. Robert Meger MD
Thank you for inquiry and amazing gift as a donor. Having donating a kidney does not exclude you from having a breast augmentation. If you are in good health, you should be able to proceed safely. Good Luck.
With the history of working 5 years with kidney donation and renal transplant patients I would like to praise your courage and ultimate gift in your decision to donate a kidney to someone you care about and to give them a longer more fulfilling life hopefully without further dialysis. The great news is that you can have the breast augmentation with a normal functioning kidney. I would talk to your transplant surgeon and nephrologist and let them know your intentions. Best of luck!!
I don't see any health issues that you should be concerned with if you undergo a breast augmentation while having only one kidney. Your nephrologist and/or urologist may recommend that you not use NSAIDs such as Advil after the kidney donation, but there are other pain medications that you could use after breast augmentation that would be fine. By the way, fantastic to hear that you are donating a kidney! One of the most wonderful gifts you could give someone!
As long as you are healed and everything is functioning well, then there is usually no issue in these cases. Your surgeon may want to get clearance from your nephrologist prior to surgery.
Provided that your remaining kidney has normal function, it is likely ok to proceed with a breast augmentation. You should check with your primary care physician, nephrologist, and transplant surgeon and inform them of your intentions as well. Best of luck.
Thanks for writing,Good for you for donating, it takes a strong, caring and giving person todo that. I see no problems with an augmentation. Just be aware that NSAID's ( Motrin, Advil , Aleve etc.) are rough on your one kidney and you will probably need to stay away from them. Always check with your primary physician before following advise over the internet.Goos LuckStephen M. Davis, MD, FACSGreen Hills Plastic Surgery
Bless you for your gift of a kidney. You don't need to expect to have more issues than our patients with two kidneys. Your surgeon will evaluate you preop just like every patient and might adjust some medications but your donation should not prohibit a breast augmentation.Best wishes
What a wonderful gift you gave. One kidney is adequate for normal kidney function so if you are otherwise healthy you should have no problem with the breast procedure.
I don't agree at all with such kind of draping, firstly because creates an environment of humidity with the leakage from wounds, prone to infections, secondly because the tight fixation in combination with the normal postoperative swelling may produce shearing forces that will peel of your skin...
Thank you for your question. Please speak with your plastic surgeon about your medical history. All the best,
The concrete answer is not usually, but in some instances it might be possible. The best way to find out is to have a consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon. Your insurance may require you to have your PCP submit a referral.
