Capsular contracture? 5 weeks post-op (Photo)

Question

I am 5 weeks post op, i put 285cc and now i am very scared because my left boob is very swollen and my Right boob is perfect, this could be a Capsular Contracture or my implant move??

At five weeks after surgery, your breasts should be gradually softening. If one breast is getting more swollen and harder, you may be developing capsule contracture, or you may have a fluid collection around the implant. You should have your surgeon examine you as soon as possible.

Thank you for posting your question. You are asymmetrical and it appears that your left breast is very swollen. This is not a typical presentation of capsular contracture. The most common causes of acute swollen breast are haematoma or more commonly a seroma (fluid collection). With either of these scenarios you need to be reviewed regularly by your surgeon and I would advice you start some antibiotics immediately. Best of luck.

Thanks for your inquiry, at five weeks encapsulation is unlikely. Without an exam it is hard to advise,  but swelling could be fluid collection, etc--please see your plastic surgeon to discuss.

Thank you for your question and for the photographs.I can see that your left breast is settling quite nicely but the right breast is still quite large, heavy and swollen. In my professional opinion this is not a contracture which takes several months on average to appear. The short answer is no you don't have capsular contracture.  It takes quite a while for the capsule to develop around the implant.  After the capsule is developed it can undergo contracture.  I have never seen CC sooner than a year after surgery.  Because of the significant size discrepancy in your breasts you should see your plastic surgeon for an evaluation.

Thanks for the great question. Capsular contracture does not typically present as swelling like seen in your photo. This could be due to a fluid collection of a hematoma, both of which should be seen by your surgeon. Best,~Dr. Sieber

Capsular contracture does not happen that quickly. More likely, you have either swelling or some fluid around the implant causing backside to be larger. I would suggest you follow-up with your chosen plastic surgeon. Congratulations on your surgery.
