Hi, I recently got breast augmentation surgery. I got 330cc, silicone gel, under the muscle, incisions under the breast. My surgery was 12/20/17. Last night for New Years Eve I went to a bonfire and sat close beside the fire because I was cold. I didn’t realize until after I left that it might be bad for my recovery. I got home smelling like smoke and with my hair covered in ash. Is the smoke I inhaled and exposed myself to likely to affect my recovery? I’m about 11 days post-op.

Answer: Smoke inhalation after surgery Any smoke inhalation is less than ideal after surgery because of the particulates that can reduce oxygenation in the lungs, but second hand smoke from a bonfire will be much less serious than direct inhalation of cigarette smoke combined with the blood vessel constriction caused by nicotine. Additionally, the small incision from a breast augmentation is less prone to problems than the larger incisions associated with surgeries like a breast reduction or abdominoplasty. I wouldn't worry, but for the best results I would try to avoid more smoke exposure during the remainder of your recovery. Good luck!

Answer: Smoke inhalation after breast augmentation Hello and thank you for your question. I wouldn't be worried at all about your surgery results being affected by a bonfire. Smoke from cigarettes are the things that concern us , but not a bonfire.
