A BBL is the correct procedure to get the results you describe the period Your subcutaneous fat layers are relatively thin, so the outcome of the procedure will be more subtle then it will for those who have thicker layers of subcutaneous fat. This will be true for both the liposuction and fat transfer results. I think you already have it terrific shaped body and you really don’t need inches to create better curves. The reason for this is because you are already quite proportionate, but accentuating the curves would look better. The question becomes if a subtle change justifies having the procedure. A lot of this depends on what you’re hoping to achieve, and even more depends on your ability to select the right provider both in regards to getting a quality assessment and the ability to do the procedure well. I typically never encourage people to gain weight for the purpose of having fat transfer procedures. The concept is in my opinion inherently flawed. Instead, I usually have patience include more areas for Liposuction to harvest sufficient amounts of fat for a quality fat transfer outcome. Again, this is something that each individual person needs to consider if the procedure is justified. The most common combination is liposuction of the torso with grafting fat to the hips and buttocks. Are usually view entry the torso as a single an atomic unit, including all parts of the torso when doing lip section. If treating the torso does not harvest enough fat then I usually add arms or inner thighs as a second source of fat. The ability to predetermine how much fat can be harvested based on weight, BMI and physical examination is one of the hardest things we do in this type of work. A quarter inch difference in thickness of subcutaneous fat could potentially double the amount of fat available on a thin person. On top of the uncertainty in assessing low BMI, patience for fat transfer is the fact that the number of plastic surgeons who’ve mastered, liposuction and fat transfer is quite low. This procedure has more variation in outcome, depending on who patients chooses their provider and just about any other plastic surgery procedure I’ve seen. I cannot emphasize enough the importance of provider selection. Being board-certified in plastic surgery with years of experience, and overall good reputation does not mean somebody is mastered any single procedure especially not liposuction and fat transfer. Finding the right provider for this procedure is far more difficult than most people realize. Poorly Dun Liposuction can leave people permanently disfigured. To begin the process of vetting providers and find the right provider for your needs, as well as to get more accurate assessments regarding your candidacy for the procedure I suggest scheduling multiple in person consultations with providers in your community. The accuracy in determining if someone should or should not do, the procedure is difficult enough to do with an in person consultation including an examination. Doing this, as a virtual consultation becomes inaccurate, and is ill advised in my opinion. There’s no correct number of consultations needed to find the right provider. The more consultations you scheduled the more likely you are to find the better provider for your needs. You may find a very different opinions among plastic surgeons whether the procedure is justified or not. My best guess is that a significant number of providers Will say that you’re too thin for a BBL and or that you need to gain weight before the procedure. Again, I do not recommend anybody gain weight for a fat transfer procedure. Few people ever feel better about themselves and being overweight and if you lose the fat, then it becomes self-defeating. During each consultation, ask each provider to open up their portfolio and show you their entire collection of before, and after pictures of previous patients, who had similar body characteristics to your own. And experience provider should have no difficulty showing you the before and after pictures of at least 50 previous patients. Highly experienced providers will have access to hundred or preferably thousands of before and after pictures. For fat transfers results recognize that early results can look very impressive, but do not necessarily represent long-term final results. In order for after pictures to be representative, they should be taken no less than 3 to 6 months from the date of surgery. Never assume that after pictures were taken long-term after the procedure and always ask the timeframe of when after pictures were taken. Being shown a handful of preselected images, representing only the best results of a providers career may be insufficient to get a clear understanding of what average results look like in the hands of each provider, what your results are likely to look like or how many of these procedures they’ve actually done. Look very carefully not only at fat transfers results but also at Liposuction results. When reviewing Liposuction results asked to providers to point out exactly what areas were treated and what areas were not treated and look carefully at transition zones between treated and untreated areas. The fat transfer results should create a perfect smooth, continuous S-curve(a.k.a. hourglass a.k.a. Coke bottle) starting at the knee and finishing at the armpit. There’s no correct number of consultations needed to find the right provider. The more consultations you scheduled the more likely are to find the best provider for your needs. Considering how much variation there is in skill and experience for this procedure, I recommend patients consider having five or more consultations before selecting a provider. I recognize this is time consuming, but you’ll be reminded of the outcome every day for the rest of your life. Considering how much variation there is an outcome and that worst case scenarios can leave people disfigured I think it is reasonable to put this much effort into the selection process. Personally, I’m not certain that the procedure would be justified. The amount of body fat is quite low and in order to get a better understanding of what your goals and desires are in combination to what each provider can achieve an in person consultation, showing lots of before and after pictures is Imperative. When in doubt, slow down and schedule more consultations. Nobody needs to have cosmetic surgery. Before moving forward make sure you’ve done your due diligence. And this requires meeting surgeons in person. Best, Mats Hagstrom, MD
