Is it possible a chin implant can make the chin smaller?

Hi I was wondering if with a chin implant is it possible to make the chin smaller? I am unhappy with my chin size and shape and think my chin is too long for my liking and would like a chin implant to help with the shape but to make it smaller as well

Thank you for your question. A chin implant will generally increase the projection and/ or width of the chin rather than make it appear smaller. Genioplasty is a chin surgery that can adjust the size and shape of your chin to make it appear smaller and bring it into balance with the rest of your facial features.

Thanks for the question. A chin implant is designed to enhance the appearance of the chin by adding volume and projection. The implant is typically made of silicone, and is placed over the existing bone structure of the chin to create a more prominent and defined chin. It is not typical for a chin implant to make the chin smaller, as the implant is designed to add volume and projection to the chin. However, in some cases, a chin implant may be used in combination with other procedures, such as liposuction or genioplasty (surgical chin reshaping), to create a more balanced and proportional facial profile. Chin implant is usually placed for augmentation and shaping of chin. If chin is too large, reduction by means of sliding reverse genioplasty or direct reduction with bone removal, is an optiuon. In some cases, however, chin implant may be used for shaping of the chin without significant augmentation. Hope this helps.

In general, chin reduction surgery usually involves reducing the bone height or width or both. The amount of projection can also be changed as well.

A chin implant technically makes the chin larger, but, if you have a wide chin or square chin it may make the chin "look" smaller.  A wide flat chin that is back too far will look larger than a tapered narrow chin.  Photos will be key, of course. If your chin is actually too large we can reshape the bone and chin itself.
