Is it norm to have chills, cold sweating and night sweats 2 day after liposuction surgery?

Any time that you are post-surgical and you develop chills/fever/swerats, you should contact your surgeon immediately just to make sure that it is not an infection.  The body goes through some strange changes after liposuction, but chills and sweating are usually not part of the recovery process.

Infection after liposuction is considered rare. Nevertheless it is possible and symptoms of an infection such as fever and chills should be reported to your surgeon.

I suggest you see your physician for an evaluation immediately.  Systemic symptoms like this are not common after surgery and could be a sign for an infection or allergic reaction to medication.  It is best that you be evaluated promptly to ensure everything is okay. Best, Dr. Emer.

Fever and chill after liposuction may be a sign of an infection.  There are essentially three ways to have an infection after surgery.  First, at the area of your surgery, or surgical sight infection.  Typically the area of your surgery may be red, hard and even painful.  The second way is for you to have a urinary tract infection.  The risk of this increases with use of urinary catheters during surgery.  Typically you would burning and pain with urination and perhaps more frequency and urgency of urination.  The third type of infection is pulmonary, which can be from having general anesthesia and not breathing deeply after surgery.  Typically you will have shortness of breath, perhaps a cough.  No matter what the origin, it is important for you to contact your surgeon with your symptoms, if nothing else to see you and reassure you!

If you are feeling poorly after your procedure you should let your surgeon know immediately. We expect our liposuction patients to feel well, and your doctor should hear from you.
