Kybella is a dynamic product with broad capabilities, including off label and off the face. It truly is surgery in a bottle, with permanent removal of fat - the main alternative treatment being liposuction. I have always used Kybella to not just treat the area directly under the chin, but to blend it in to the lateral neck and jawline. This yields a more natural and thorough treatment. The only time I use the cookie cutter grid is when I am teaching other physicians how to use it, which you can see in the attached video. With the ability to treat broad area, it is easy to customize a Kybella treatment to match your exact goals, needs and anatomy. It can take multiple treatments, but I tend to get towards final results after two treatments, and the second treatment can be even more custom tailored to achieve that final result. Liposuction can achieve results with one treatment, but does not allow for the fine-tuning when needed, so which treatment will be best for you will depend on a discussion with your surgeon. To ensure you are receiving the highest level of care, seek out a modernly trained, new-school dermatologic surgeon, oculoplastic surgeon, facial plastic surgeon or plastic surgeon who is board certified and fellowship trained in one of these "core four" cosmetic specialties. Membership in organizations like the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery help to identify a highly trained surgeon.Cameron Chesnut#realself500 Physician
Hi, I would not recommend Kybella for the jowls , as Kybella is currently FDA approved for the submental fat under you chin. I would recommend a skin tightening and fat reduction treatment for your jowls. Thermi Smooth Face is an excellent procedure for reducing fat cells and skin tightening. It is non invasive, non surgical , no pain and zero down time-- its around the same price of Kybella. With your best look in mind,Dr. Elyse S. Rafal
Kybella is FDA approved for submental fat and I would not recommend any off label use. Moreover, it does not seem that you have fat deposits, but instead sagging skin. I advise you to look into fillers, Botox and lasers or RF devices for skin tightening. Make an appointment with experienced provider to get examined and create adequate treatment plan. Good luck!
Thank you foryour question PT567. I am sorry to hear about your situation. Kybellais the first and thus-far only FDA-approved non-surgical injectable treatmentfor the double chin. Kybella can be used in other areas off label. The jowls is an example of such as area where some doctors inject Kybella. I do not place Kybella in this area because it is close to the marginal mandibular nerve. If a needle hits this nerve it can lead to a temporary asymmetric smile. I prefer placing Voluma in the mid face to lift the lower face and help with jowls. Pleaseconsult with a doctor for specific recommendations. Good luck!
Kybella is not the right treatment for your issue. It is for fat under the chin while your "jowls" are from skin that is suffering the effects of gravity. Speak with a board certified plastic surgeon about Botox and fillers. They are the right non-surgical choice for jowls.
Kybella is deoxycholic acid and is a series of treatments indicated to remove submental (under the chin) fat. It is only FDA approved to treat this area. When using Kybella, the jowls are an area we would recommend avoiding due to the risk of injury to the marginal mandibular nerve that runs in this area. If injury to this nerve occurs, the result would be an asymmetric smile. Jowling is also typically from skin laxity rather than a pocket of fat, so treatment would be skin tightening (surgical or non-surgical) rather than fat reduction.
Thank you for your question and your photographs. Kybella is an excellent treatment for stubborn areas of fat especially under the chin (FDA approved) but also upper arm area and knees. For the face however, I would not recommend this treatment. One of the major concerns with Kybella is nerve injury. Kybella injected in this area close to your mouth may result in nerve damage and difficulties smiling. Although this would likely be temporary, it is not guaranteed. I would suggest looking into a facelift for the most effective and longest lasting resolution to your jowls. You can also consider filler to the marionette lines and in the jaw line but this may square your face too much. The best option for you would be a consultation with a plastic surgeon who performs both surgical and non-surgical treatments to determine what is best for you. Best of luck!
Hi There-- Jowls are formed from loose skin, not really from fat. The best way to treat jowls is with a skin tightening procedure. I prefer Infini RF, and have found it to be very effective. It works by combining microneedling and radiofrequency. Kybella dissolves fat and does not tighten skin. It can be used to treat "double chin" when injected into the fat pad under the chin. It will not help with jowls.
Kybella is only approved for the submental area (under the chin), however many people experience fat in the jowl area like you are describing. It would be an off-label use of Kybella (something many people do anyway), but you need to make sure you see an expert. There is a nerve in this area that can be affected by injections. Expert face injectors will know what to do - new injectors won't. "This answer has been solicited without seeing this patient and cannot be held as true medical advice, but only opinion. Use of ice after Kybella injection is for minimizing the bruising and helps the burning discomfort associated after the injection process. I usually tell my patients to pre ice the area to decrease the discomfort from the injection and once the treatment is done, I give them ice pack for...
Kybella reduces the fat under the chin and it is not FDA approved for skin tightening. It takes longer than 6 weeks to see end results with some people. You may look into other skin tightening treatments to achieve best results. Good luck!
You can begin taking it after your Kybella injections. Reducing or discontinuing anti-inflammatories or aspirin prior to a procedure is to limit bleeding in the area of the procedure.
