Can excision help me with my chicken pox scars? (photo)

Question

I'm 20 years old. I have several very deep chicken pox scars on my forehead. I got chicken pox when I was 2 years old. After 2 laser treatments 4 years ago and injections 2 years ago, it is still very noticeable. In January 2017, I got injection too. The results were better, but I am still not satisfied. Can excision gives better results? The two big scars in the middle of my forehead are the one I hate the most.

A scar treatment plan can include utilizing both lasers to address the pigmentation whether it be red, brown,  purple, textured, (raised or depressed) or wide and dermal fillers. Fillers can be used to fill in any indentation or atrophy the scar may have left behind. Bellafill ® is a great permanent collagen inducing filler that is FDA approved and I have had results making at least guys almost invisible. However, 1 to 3 treatments may be necessary over the course of 6 -12 months.

For chicken pox scars, I recommend a combination with subcision, fillers and lasers. It may take a series of treatments. I recommend getting a formal evaluation with a facial scarring expert. Best, Dr. Emer

There are different treatment options for chicken pox scars depending on various factors, and it sounds like you're tried a few things. I'd advise trying a fractionated resurfacing/ablative laser such as ProFractional or considering microneedling/dermaroller. As well, doing a punch excision of a single lesion to see if you like the result is quite reasonable.
