I've had this scar on my nasolabial fold since July 2015. I think it may be a result from popping a pimple, but I'm not sure. I've gotten juvaderm filler injected twice into it hoping it would get rid of it, but it hasn't. I've also gotten many chemical peels thinking it would lessen the appearance of it, but no luck. What other options are there to get rid of this. I've thought about laser treatment. Just not sure how effective that might be.
Answer: Subcision Lifting Helps To Elevate Depressed Scars & Microneedling To Blend Them The photo is unclear, although it seems that the scar is indented (depressed, atrophic). If this is indeed the case, a subcision lifting, to lraise the depression, (either alone or used in combination with a lifting filler) would be a very reasonable and inexpensive approach to permanently elevating and smoothing the scar. The subcision is intended to promote new, native collagen and elastin production, and the filler to obtain immediate lifting as well as, via its own biostimulatory effects, additional new, native collagen and elastic fiber synthesis. My choice for filler in my Upper East Side Manhattan practice would be Restylane Lyft and in my Israel satellite facility, where a far greater number of regulatory agency approved fillers are available, Hyaluronica 2. I would not opt for Juvederm, since it is less effective for providing lift. Medical microneedling, another simple and relatively inexpensive technique, may subsequently be used in the event that surface color and texture irregularities persist and remain troubling after elevating the base of scar. Be sure to seek consultation and treatment by a board certified aesthetic physician.

Answer: Consultation Hello and thank you for your question. The best advice you can receive is from an in-person consultation. Fillers and fat grafting can be helpful in some patients for this issue. The most important aspect is to find a surgeon you are comfortable with. I recommend that you seek consultation with a qualified board-certified plastic surgeon who can evaluate you in person. Best wishes and good luck. Richard G. Reish, M.D. Harvard-trained plastic surgeon

Answer: Scar Revision Jen. Physical exam would be helpful, but from your photo, you may benefit from a scar revision. The location of the scar is actually advantageous, because it can be excised, and the new scar positioned within the nasolabial fold, camouflaging it. You do run the risk of replacing it with an even worse scar, but the odds are against it. I do not believe your other options will be helpful. Check out the link below to an article I wrote about scar formation and treatment. Be sure to consult with a board certified plastic surgeon. Good luck!

Answer: Scar in Nasolabial Fold It appears from the photo that a combination of lasers and intralesional cortisone injections may be the best way to treat this scar. I would avoid any surgical procedure as it would make the scar more prominent. Please consult an expert. Best, Dr. Green
