What to do if Thermi RF caused a blister/burn?

Question

I had lipo plus Thermi RF on my chin and neck 24 hours ago. Although I was not supposed to change the dressing or remove the head gauze, I did so because the incision continues to bleed. I noticed a one inch blister on my neck when removing the gauze today. Is this normal? In addition, the incision site is still oozing blood. Should I wrap the gauze tighter?

Because the ThermiTight procedure heats tissues, there is a risk of burns occurring. A blister indicates that a second degree burn has occurred. Because you are also still bleeding, I would highly recommend that you get in touch with your treating physician as soon as possible. Best of luck to you.

Thank you for your question.  If the blister is from the Thermi then you may have a small skin burn. If that was your only concern then keeping it clean and allowing it to heal would be appropriate.   In most cases these go on to heal without any noticeable scarring. Because you also have continued bleeding as well as the blister and you have removed your dressing you should really get in to see your surgeon today so that he/she can evaluate you.

If the skin temperature goes too high this can cause a burn to the superficial skin. Contact your surgeon because they will want to take a look at this and evaluate the area.

You should call the physician that performed your procedure and have him/her look at the area and advise about appropriate treatment. Burns can occur at too high of a setting in areas where the skin is thin. It will most likely resolve if treated properly. Best of Luck to you.

You may have a burn because the heat was high on thin tissue.  I would contact your surgeon to have this seen.  You will likely get a great result but should get appropriate treatment for the burn. Good luck!
