I had rhinoplasty six months ago. Why are there dents on the sides of my columella? Should I consider revision? (Photo)

The indents are from columellar incision used for an open rhinoplasty approach. These are very difficult to fix but a small amount of filler might reduce the appearance. RegardsDr. J

It appears that you had Rhinoplasty through open technique. That's why I'm not a proponent of this approach. I utilize a closed technique- no scar across columella- for both primary and revision rhinoplasties. You have a permanent scar and a tell tale sign of an open Rhinoplasty, unfortunately. Hopefully, this has been discussed with you pre-operatively.

Thanks for the question! It appears that your open rhinoplasty scar healed in a somewhat indented fashion. At six months, this might improve to some extent over the next six months without intervention. That said, you should ask your surgeon about microneedling to smooth the scar. Three to six sessions might be needed. A conservative and careful placement of filler could help too, though I’d start with microneedling. Laser resurfacing could also be an option. Revision surgery is not indicated if you are happy with the rest of your nose. Kind regards,Dr. Mehta

The dents you're referring to are directly related to an open rhinoplasty incision. This could be completely avoided with a closed rhinoplasty approach. Best to speak with your operative surgeon about options are going to be rather limited

These dents on the sides of your columella relate to the incision line.  They may become less noticeable over the next six months as swelling settles further so do not worry.  Columella scar revision can be very difficult so if you are worried at a year have very careful discussions with your surgeon.

Dear Nosejobthings, It appears that your surgeon may have used an open rhinoplasty technique and did not use an inverted V incision. The incision appears to go straight across causing a somewhat notched appearance. Speak with your surgeon and discuss your concerns.
