I had nose surgery in April of 2025 with Dr. Julian Rowe-Jones. The process, from start to finish, was incredibly well put together. I contacted the Doctor via email, and was greeted by his two fabulous aides: Lisa and Sam. They guided me very well in navigating the entire process. The doctor uses an online portal where all information is collected (pictures, tests, bookings, payments, etc.), and I was instructed to sign up to it, as it would make the process smooth. And it certainly did. Having everything organized in one place, instead of having scattered emails all over the place is a brilliant idea. After that, I was ready to get on a call with Doctor Julian Rowe-Jones. Before he thoroughly explained the anatomical problems of my nose, he wanted to understand what my point of view was, approaching this surgery. He wanted to understand what my priorities were and how I would rank them. He then offered a very detailed explanation of what can and cannot be accomplished and how he would perform the surgery to reach those results. After the meeting ended, the above-mentioned portal was loaded with a document recapping everything we talked about during the call. This was extremely helpful as I was able to re-read his notes and understand them even better. Following that step, I had to have a conversation with a psychologist who was also very nice to talk to. She wanted to understand what my expectations were and if I would be a good candidate for surgery. I had a call with the Mount Alvernia Hospital staff, to have an anamnesis. Their call was way more thorough than I could ever expect and I gained a lot of trust in them following the call, as their preciseness is trust-inspiring. After clearing that step, it was time to meet Doctor Julian Rowe-Jones and his amazing wife Emma. Several pictures were taken and we looked at the computer simulation of what could be accomplished in terms of final shape. It was made clear to me that the computer simulation was a projection of what the final result could look like, but, obviously, it's still a simulation after all. At no point during the entire process did I feel pressured into having the procedure. I was asked several times whether this is what I actually wanted to do, and I appreciated that. At Mount Alvernia Hospital, I was greeted by an amazing hospital staff, and I was confident that I would be taken care of very well. My expectations were smashed completely because I was treated far far better than I could have ever imagined. The level of care and expertise of all people involved was amazing. Reflecting upon it, it makes sense that Doctor Julian Rowe-Jones would choose this hospital, as he sets an incredibly high bar for himself and everyone he collaborates with. Since I was coming from overseas, I spent the night after the surgery at the hospital, following the suggestion of Doctor Rowe-Jones, and I was incredibly impressed by how well I was treated throughout the whole process. The surgery itself lasted, I was told, since I was sedated, about 3.5 hours. After I woke up, Doctor Rowe-Jones came to my room and explained to me how the surgery went and checked in on how I was feeling. Emma and Doctor Julian Rowe-Jones prepared me extremely well before the surgery as what to expect and all of the things to do following the surgery, and to make sure I wouldn't have to remember everything they told me, they gave me very meticulously prepared documentation that made sure that no small detail was left out or forgotten. After roughly one week, I took the cast off and I was extremely happy in looking at the results. Obviously, I knew the nose was going to be swollen and that there would be different levels of swelling within the same day, but I could see immediately the awesome results that the Doctor accomplished for me. After I left Britain, I was told to contact Lisa and Sam at any point should there be any problem. Thanks to the precise preparation given to me by Emma and Doctor Rowe-Jones, alongside their documentation, the recovery process was incredibly smooth with absolutely no set-back. A week or so ago, I had a check in call with Doctor Rowe-Jones to catch up on how the recovery was going. Doctor Rowe-Jones saw that my nose was looking very good and told me it is going to improve even further. In conclusion, my experience was extremely positive. It is difficult to put in words how awesome he is and how amazing his results are. As long as you precisely follow the recommendations given, the chances of set backs are approximately zero. I would recommend anyone inquiring for nose surgery to strongly consider Doctor Rowe-Jones. You will not be disappointed. In fact, the opposite is true: he will exceed your expectations, as he did mine.
Julian is absolutely the best of the best! I can’t recommend him enough. The whole process from start to finish was extremely smooth and seamless. I had an open septorhinoplasty. There were 2 things that I wanted to get fixed, my deviated septum and the bump on my bridge. Julian and his team, specifically Emma were extremely thorough in their explanation of what to expect prior to and post surgery. They were reassuring and extremely professional. 4 months on and my nose is exactly what I was hoping for. The procedure left me with minimal bruising, no scaring and little pain. The first 2 days were the worst, but in the grand scheme of things, so minor. What I really appreciated and what I am the most thankful for is that I still look like me, and that was my objective all a long. I can’t fault Julian or his team at all.
I cannot recommend Julian highly enough. He and his wife Emma, who handles pre-and post operative care, are an excellent team. It took me a long time to come to the decision to have a rhinoplasty. I spent nearly 2 years considering whether it was the right thing for me- with Covid intervening in the middle. But once I had made a decision, I felt fully supported at every stage. You are taking a risk by having a rhinoplasty and going under a general anaesthetic and it is really important to be in the right hands. If you are also looking for a very natural look, I would highly recommend Julian‘s approach. There are cheaper options, especially if you’re prepared to look abroad, but personally I would always prioritise my own health and well-being over any aesthetic concerns and I can definitely assure any prospective patients they would be in outstanding hands with the Nose Clinic.
I cannot speak highly enough of Julian Rowe-Jones and his entire team. From the very first consultation to the post-operative follow-ups, every step of the process was marked by professionalism, skill, and genuine care. Julian Rowe-Jones is not only an incredibly skilled surgeon, but also compassionate and patient-centred. He took the time to thoroughly explain the procedure and answer all of my questions. His confidence and clarity immediately put me at ease. On the day of surgery, the entire medical team were outstanding. I felt completely safe in their hands. The procedure went smoothly, and my recovery has been better than I could have hoped for. What sets Julian Rowe-Jones and his team apart is their commitment to excellence. Every interaction felt personal and not rushed. The follow-up care has also been very thorough. I am incredibly grateful for the care I received and would highly recommend Julian Rowe-Jones without hesitation.
I am delighted with the results of my functional septorhinoplasty performed by Mr Rowe-Jones, after many years of managing sinus, congestion and related breathing issues with limited success. Mr Rowe-Jones explained the complexity of the procedure and the likelihood of the results improving my symptoms. I was heard and understood when I explained my worries about the surgery, and concerns were addressed with care, reassurance and honesty. It took me some time to make the final decision to go ahead with surgery and it was a priority for me that any changes to the appearance of my nose were minor- my biggest fear was looking noticeably different! I went into the operation feeling good with the lovely team who took care of me. The recovery was surprisingly manageable and I had only minor bruising. I returned to work without a problem. I have not experienced any complications or issues- swelling continues to come down at the tip of my nose even six months later (not noticeable to anyone but me!). I no longer have to constantly 'manage' symptoms, this procedure has made a real difference to my health and sense of wellbeing. As a psychologist working in physical health, I highly recommend Mr Rowe Jones for his patient care, attention to detail and excellent results.
Julian and his team are first class. I researched carefully to find the best rhinoplasty surgeon and Julian is without doubt one of the best. My story is in sum: I had a hooked nose, which from the side profile was unsightly. As a child I was bullied because of this and I was painfully shy. As a teenager I sent away for rhinoplasty brochures but was never able to afford the surgery. I'm now 48 years old and last year decided to research surgeons and explore rhinoplasty. The reviews of Julian were all excellent and I particularly liked that he was a specialist in this area, as well as a leading practitioner and researcher. I made enquiries and instantly liked his manner, professionalism and humility. There is a thorough process that is carried about before he will agree to perform the surgery. He genuinely cares about getting the result you want, but not at any cost- he will explain the limitations of what is possible. For example, my nose could be straightened but not reduced in size. I was happy for the nose to just be straight. The care and treatment from nurse Emma is excellent. Everything that you need to know is carefully covered and explained. There are no surprises. The recovery from surgery takes 2-3 days - I felt tired but there were no black eyes, just the support cast across my nose. After this was removed, other people would not have known I had had surgery. My family haven't noticed because the change to my nose aesthetically complements my face so it just softens it. However, the change for me has been transformative. I no longer think about my nose. I don't hide behind my glasses. I save all the emotional energy that I once spent trying to conceal my side profile. The decision to have rhinoplasty was one of the best decisions I've ever made. Surgery with Julian is worth every penny and it pays to choose someone who will give you the best chance of receiving the outcome you desire. On the ward at the hospital, the nurses would comment on what a lovely person Julian is and this is really true. He is exceptionally talented, but humble and kind. I recommend rhinoplasty with him and his team 100%.
After many years of coping with an ugly (in my opinion) nose I finally decided to do something about it. First stop; plastic surgeons only doing noses, then British Soc.of Rhinoplasty Surgeons, then those I just liked the sound of...so, semi-scientific! My final choice of Mr Rowe-Jones was based on 3 things; firstly, his obvious competence and experience. Secondly the patient testimonials and before/after shots. One patient in particular articulated exactly how self-conscious I felt about my nose...avoiding photos, coping with negative comments etc. The clincher was the positive reaction I had to my initial call (Front-of-house..SO important) I wondered if at 63 I was too old but happily not so. My initial consultation was by video as I live in France but went really well and so I committed - at long last - and clearly I made the right choice. My treatment was kind, professional and respectful, also realistic and I underwent surgery confident of what the result would be. I was clearly briefed on what to do pre-surgery and how I'd feel post-surgery. I did feel as if I had a bad cold for a few days but had no pain and very minimal bruising. The worst discomfort was from the after-effects of general anaesthetic but not unexpected, especially for a slightly older patient. Even with the splint on I could see a difference and now, 4 months later what a daily joy it is....to me anyway! Funny thing is, not a single person has noticed...slightly annoying but hilarious. I was sceptical when Mr Rowe-Jones said they probably wouldn't and turns out he was right.
My rhinoplasty procedure with Mr Rowe Jones couldn't have been a more positive experience. From my first meeting with him, through to my final appointment 12 months post surgery, I received top level service and attention. The initial consultation, which took place with Mr Rowe Jones and his wife, was comprehensive and highly informative with plenty of opportunity for questions. Everyone at the clinic was warm and welcoming and put me at ease. I knew at the initial meeting that Mr Rowe Jones was the surgeon I wanted to undertake the procedure. He was knowledgeable, patient and empathetic. He was also, most importantly, realistic about the results he could achieve with my nose which was particularly complex! I had a hump in the bridge, a twisted septum (which, it transpires, was actually broken unbeknownst to me!) and I had a hooked tip. He asked me what my priority areas of focus were. I said that if he could remove the hump and make my nose more symmetrical, I would be pleased. Mr Rowe Jones achieved this and more. He created a subtle but impactful lift in my tip, which looks a lot more feminine, removed the hump and centred the nose so that it wasn't hanging over to one side as it did previously. It also appears slightly smaller. Recovery time was in alignment with the guidance I was given at the clinic. I had a small cast over my nose that was removed after a week. I had swelling under my eyes which lasted a couple of weeks (and was at its worst on nights 2 and 3). The hospital staff were amazing at Mount Alvernia and I had a very comfortable stay. The after care was also fantastic - I met with Mr Rowe Jones a week after the operation, then again after 3 months and finally after 12 months. I had access to the clinic throughout that time and they were always available for questions. The price was on the higher side for a rhinoplasty but I felt it was worth it knowing that I had the best surgeon and that I would receive the best possible care. I can not recommend Mr Rowe Jones highly enough - he is brilliant, talented and kind and I am absolutely thrilled with the result. I have a lot more confidence and feel much happier in my appearance.
I had surgery with Julian five months ago and I couldn't have asked for a better experience, and the results have changed my life. My procedure involved removing a bump, straightening the nose and lifting a low hanging columella. The process of booking in and leading up to the surgery was very professional and reassuring. Julian and his team were always very clear and honest about everything, and easy to communicate with. I had multiple video calls and in-person consultations with Julian and he explained things so clearly whilst making sure I was aware of the risks and limitations of the surgery. The surgery itself was very smooth, and I felt very well looked after at Mount Alvernia Hospital. I was Julian’s only appointment of the day, and I felt like he was totally focused on me and getting me the results I wanted. I had almost no pain after surgery, and was lucky to have only very slight bruising and swelling for a few days, which is a testament to Julian's work. I could not be happier with the results – I’ve got the nose I wanted, but the change was subtle enough that most of my friends haven’t even noticed. I have no regrets at all, and feel a weight has lifted. I am hugely grateful to Julian (as well as Sam, Lisa and Emma) for what they have done for me.
The complete service I received from Mr Rowe-Jones and his team from booking to post op was exemplary. They were extremely efficient and professional, and they made me feel at ease throughout the whole process. I am very happy with the results and couldn't recommend them highly enough!
Your nasal tip can be fixed to stop it pulling slightly down and back when you smile. You appear from your photographs to have an attractive tip angle when not smiling. Please be aware that your nostril bases pull up and back when you smile and this cannot be changed. I do not think you need surgery to the bridge to stop your tip looking hooked.
If you want a ski-slope bridge in profile then you do not need a radix graft. I would advise you ask your surgeon to demonstrate your profile with image manipulation with and without a radix graft. This will help you decide.
The NHS does not offer cosmetic nasal surgery. If you have breathing problems due to a deviated nasal septum and also want cosmetic nasal surgery there are advantages to having both addressed at the same time. An experienced nasal surgeon will be able to perform functional and cosmetic surgery. Many of these experienced surgeons will work or have worked in both the NHS and private practice.
Rhinoplasty has little impact on stopping the nose widening when you smile. The muscles of facial expression pull the outer parts of the nostrils backwards and upwards with smiling, just as they do to the corners of the mouth. Releasing the muscles that act on the nostrils has an unpredictable outcome and is not well understood. If there are things you would like to change about your nose when you are not smiling this is worth discussing with a rhinoplasty surgeon.
A modern, structural approach to rhinoplasty should not leave your nose weaker. However if you received a serious injury to your nose after surgery it would be much more difficult to fix and you may not get as good a result again. Unless your nose is badly blocked I would not advise rhinoplasty until you have stopped boxing.
