There is no more of a higher risk of scarring in the recipient area from an FUE transplant versus an FUG transplanted graft. If you are referring to the FUE donor site (the area from which the grafts are removed), you can expect for there to be tiny dots in the places from which the grafts were removed. These are generally very small and only seen if the hair is buzzed very close or shaved. FUE avoids the linear scar from an FUG hair transplant.
FUE is a method of harvesting hair follicles. It will leave tiny round dot scars. FUE is not a scarless surgery.
The FUE method of hair transplant surgery utilizes individual graft extraction from the scalp. Each graft is extracted one-by-one directly from the scalp. No scalp excision is required like with the FUT/Strip method. While no elongated scar is left behind by the FUE method, there is still a possibility for scarring. This comes from the punches that are being made in the back of the scalp to extract grafts. That being said, if the FUE method of surgery is done correctly, with the latest advanced extraction tools and advanced skill and technique, scarring can be non-existent or at least non-visible to the naked eye. In order to ensure your surgery is as scarless as possible, you’ll want to ensure your surgeon is using the smallest extraction tool available. Many hair transplant centers use a 1.0-2.0mm extraction tool. I prefer to use a 0.7mm punch. This greatly reduces the risk for scarring. Feel free to read more about my minimal scarring technique on my website.
Every surgery involving incisions or extraction will result in scarring at some level. The goal of FUE (vs strip) is to replace a long, visible scar with many very small, less visible scars. If you like to keep you hair long in the back of the head it doesn't matter which type of procedure is used to remove grafts from the donor area. If you keep you hair short I would recommend FUE because the extraction scars are significantly less noticeable, but not invisible.
Hi Thank you for your question. With FUE Hair Transplant the results are extremely effective. You may notice some very tiny scars in the recipient area, however the puncture marks are very small and some close up without leaving any mark. Also the puncture holes are made ensuring there is plenty of hair surrounding them so when you let your hair grow out the scars will not be visible and you will still have dense/thick hair.I hope this has answered your question. Please do find a board certified surgeon before embarking on Hair Transplant surgery. All the best
Any time you cut or punch into the skin more that a superficial scrape, you will have a scar. There is no such thing as scar-less surgery. FUE has gained popularity, in part, because it allows patients who want to wear their hair very short, such as a fade or buzzcut, the possibility for hair transplant because the tiny dot-like scars are more easily camouflaged in short hair. Interestingly, when you add up the surface area of all the FUE dot scars together, the combined total is actually more than that of a linear scar. However, the linear scar from FUT/strip is more easily visible with short hair cuts.
If performed properly there should be no visible scarring in the recipient area following an FUE procedure. The donor area will have some however, though it should be minimal and only noticeable if you buzz your hair very short.
Hello, nasolabialundereye. This is a very good question. In my clinic I use a .08mm punch. The resulting scar is not very visible to the eye. Also, if the surgeon has experience and does a good job, the density loss on the donor area will be minimum. I am a big advocate of FUE for these reasons.Best of lucks
While FUE hair transplants are considered virtually scarless they may leave little dots in the donor / recipient areas. This varies from patient to patient accordingly to how you heal and your skin type. It also depends on what technology and size punches the doctor is using.
Typically, no scars are present in the recipient area. In the donor area, there is the potential to see small lighter "dots" if the hair is cut very short.
If you are having issues after surgery, especially with "redness" you should contact your doctor. Most people don't have the redness. Some people may have the redness that persist for several weeks to months in rare instances.
1000 grafts may not give you the density you want but it also depends on what was discussed between you and your doctor. Some may be happy with the density if the expectations are realistic.
It could take a few months for the hair in the donor area to fully regrow. However,if the area was overharvested than the appearance might not change. How many grafts were harvested?
