I got a closed rhinoplasty 7 months ago and I’m not too happy with the results. I wanted to get rid of the bulbous tip, lift the tip, and take down my hump. The hump was taken down but now my bridge looks flat instead of defined. I’m not sure if that’s a problem or mistake that was made. I also think my bulbous tip looks smaller but a little off. When I go in for a revision I want smaller nostrils, lift the tip more, and fix the bridge + the bulbous tip. What went wrong and can it be fixed
Answer: Be patient, but may need to revise... Looking at your photos, your tip looks similar to the before photo. It can take up to a year for all the swelling to resolve, but if the appearance doesn't change, a revision can be performed. The cartilage that makes up your tip looks curved, so it needs to be straightened to make the tip look thinner. Be sure to see a rhinoplasty specialist for consultation.

Answer: Time for revision surgery? What you need to know Hello, and thank you for your question and photos. I understand your frustrations and believe you may be a candidate for revision surgery, but I wouldn’t plan on it quite yet. I always advise my patients to avoid revision procedures until they’re at least 12 months post-op. The structures inside your nose are still healing, so swelling is expected. With that said, I would expect your nasal tip to be more refined at this point in the healing process. If you do decide to move forward with revision rhinoplasty, I strongly encourage you to seek treatment from a board-certified facial plastic surgeon with extensive experience performing these procedures.

Answer: Wider bone after the surgery is a common side effect of hump reduction. Thank you for your question. It is not uncommon for nasal bone to appear wider after hump reduction, and there seems to be no problem with the surgery. A more defined bridge can be created through revisional osteotomy. The bulbousness of the tip of the nose may be postrhinoplasty fibrosis syndrome. You can make a slimmer nose tip through scar tissue debulking.

Answer: When should I consider a revision? Thank you for your question. I’m sorry to hear that you’re not entirely happy with your rhinoplasty procedure. Since you’re only seven months out, and it takes the nose a full year to heal, I would wait until you get closer to the one-year mark before making a decision to pursue a revision procedure. Once you hit the one year mark, a full clinical examination would be necessary in order to determine whether or not a revision is possible, what can be done, and the expectations you should have after a revision procedure. I always encourage patients who come to me for revision rhinoplasty within one year of their first surgery maintain communication with their primary surgeon, if possible. It is always best to have the primary surgeon perform the revision. But that is always not feasible, so if you do decide to undergo a revision procedure, I would seek out a board-certified specialist with extensive experience in revision rhinoplasty. Good luck! Dr. E

Answer: 7 Months Post-Op Thank you for your question and for providing photos! Please be patient in your healing process as it can take up to 12 months (or longer) for the nose to fully heal after your procedure. 7 months is a bit too soon to begin looking into revision rhinoplasty options. After the 12 month mark, my recommendation would be to follow up with your surgeon and address any concerns you have with them. Best of luck!
