I am 5 months post op from a breast reduction. When I went into surgery my left breast was slightly larger (had to look a few times to notice) and now post op my right breast is immediately noticeably larger. 522grams was removed from my right and 708 grams from my left. Is liposuction a possibility for correction? Im afraid to have another breast reduction unless both breast or operated on as afraid of another issue with asymmetry.

Answer: Can liposuction be used to correct asymmetry from recent breast reduction? Hi. It is hard to say just based on the photo but my inclination would be to revise the right side. I think you are going to need tissue removed and tightened up on the lower and outer portions of the right breast to bring things into better symmetry. I would make sure that you bring up those concerns with your surgeon. If you still have hesitancy you can always consider getting a second opinion from someone else. I would recommend consulting with a board certified plastic surgeon with good experience with breast reductions as well as breast lifts. Good luck and take care, Dr. Howell

Answer: Can liposuction be used to correct asymmetry from recent breast reduction? Good question! Your right breast is not that much bigger then your left breast, it is actually much lower. This means that part of the issue is excess skin….. and liposuction will not help with excess skin, only excess fat. Liposuction will actually deflate the breast and make it drop even more! I believe a surgical revision is your only real option for symmetry. You should wait at least six months before surgery. If the revision is done on both a sides, make sure to ask for a fuller upper pole. Depending on the technique this can be done with your own breast tissue. Best of luck, Dr. Miguel Mota
