I am hoping for some guidance on my right nasolabial fold. When I smile it appears to pull further, having an asymmetrical look. I find I chew more dominantly on the right side and have had some issues with grinding my teeth. I am getting veneers on the front four teeth in the near future.

Answer: Asymmetrical fold Your nasolabial fold is slightly longer on one side and almost confluences with the marionette line on the one side. A smile is a dynamic feature and thus in most cases we some degree of asymmetry in everyone. Most smile lines cannot be changed as they are a dynamic feature. This is part of your uniqueness - don't try change it.

Answer: Rest and Active Expression.. Thank you for your question. Certainly, it is not unusual for our nasolabial folds to be asymmetric when we smile. However, ideally, we all like to be as symmetric as possible. It would be important to know if you have any asymmetry between your nasolabial folds in a resting position. If so, injectable fillers might be able to assist in improving the asymmetry both at rest and during expression. However, if there is no asymmetry at rest, then the problem is most likely related to overactive muscular activity on the right side. One could consider trying to improve the asymmetry using neural modulators like Botox or Dysport. Certainly, it would require a consultation with careful physical examination before I could give specific recommendations. I hope this helps.
