Is it possible to have two liposuction procedures a week apart?

Hello! Im a 27 year old female who is a gym rat I currently weight at 230 I wanted to get a liposuction done but I was told the limit is 4L. So my question is , is it possible to have two liposuction procedures a week a part? Sense I want to have my under arms and inner thighs done starting at a knee and up ?

Serial liposuctions are very often done just a day apart when done under local tumescent. You recover all at once and are back to the gym 1 week later.

Doing liposuction one week apart in different areas is usually safe. I do most of my liposuction's under general anesthesia, and the biggest concern is fluid shifts. These are expected to normalize well within a number of days. The other concern is lidocaine toxicity, which becomes an issue only if that is used. If your plastic surgeon does use lidocaine, this would not be an issue at one week.

One week is not enough time to allow your body to heal after a liposuction procedure.  You will have swelling for up to 6 months after liposuction.  I would suggest waiting a full 6 months between procedures for this reason.

Most plastic surgeons would stagger this by more than a week but if you are physiologically recovered in this short time span a second procedure certainly possible.

It should be possible to have your procedures in two stages.  It may be safer this way.  Florida does have regulations that limit the amount of fat removed in one procedure, so it is good that your surgeon is keeping this in mind.  We do suction more in one procedure in our practice, but every practice is different and you should follow the directions of your surgeon.

While you can liposuction several areas at once there is a limit to how much fat can be removed safely. Risks from liposuction increase significantly when over 5 liters of fat are suctioned out. We usually stay below this limit for patient safety. We’ve found that we’re able to achieve dramatic improvements for our patients with 2 to 4 liters of liposuction, depending on their needs. It's best to consult with a board certified plastic surgeon to make a realistic plan for what you hope to achieve.

It would be most likely not in good medical advise. Because if you had 4 liters liposuction the blood loss might be enough to lead to anemia. If a blood test demonstrated a normal H/H than I might consider a second less than 1 liter liposuction at 1 week posted. In my practice I usually wait 3 months between 4 liter volume lipos. Allows the body to re equilibrate and heal. Good Luck...

It is certainly possible to have two liposuction procedures one week apart. The two major issues of concern after liposuction are potential lidocaine toxicity and fluid changes from swelling.  The 4 L recommended maximum is for the purposes of swelling and fluid changes. Initial swelling is usually stabilized by three or four days after the procedure. In regards to the amount of lidocaine or numbing medicine used during the procedure, the majority of lidocaine will have been eliminated by 24 hours after the procedure. When liposuction is done as an awake procedure, high doses of lidocaine are used. When the procedure is done using general anesthesia, less lidocaine is needed.It would seem unlikely that treating inner thighs and under-arms only would require removing more than 4 L for someone at your weight.Best of luck,Mats Hagstrom, M.D.
