Do I get Botox before or after double chin lipo?

Question

I am getting double chin lipo but also want to get botox in masseters because I grind my teeth. My question is, do I get botox before or after surgery or does it even matter? Thank you.

Thank you for your question. Botox is a neuromodulator that is injected directly into the masseter muscle to relax it and narrow the jawline as a result. The medication is targeted directly into the muscle and should not affect the surrounding skin or tissue. Chin liposuction eliminates the submental fat cells under the chin using tiny cannulas and gentle suction. This treatment is done under local anesthetic and requires a few days of recovery time. The two treatments complement one another and are safe in either order. Make sure you work with a board-certified dermatologist with expertise in both these procedures to ensure an optimal outcome.

If you need Botox specifically for functional purposes, such as TMJ or grinding, you may get this at any time. However, if you seek Masseter Botox for aesthetic improvements in addition to grinding, you should consider waiting about 8 weeks post-procedure. Reason for this being that it takes time for a sufficient amount of swelling in the under chin and lower face to reduce, thus generating your desired results aesthetically.Be sure to contact your Chin Lipo surgeon before getting your Masseter Botox treatment. Best, Dr. Anil Shah

In my opinion, having Botox to the masseter muscles should not affect having liposuction of the neck for a double chin, and vice versa.  I would say you could have the Botox before or after the liposuction.
